So a lot of dumb threads have been popping up lately

Post by Wareng Teng »

I've decided to remake the "Unofficial Official Discussion Topic." This thread will hopefully eliminate the practice of people making a new thread for whatever they want to talk about, because sometimes it really isn't worth a whole new topic. So, here's how it works, I guess:
  • Someone posts a new discussion topic (in this thread, of course!)
  • People respond to that topic without bashing the person (unless the situation warrants it, for example, cactus porn)
  • This discussion goes on until people get tired of talking about shih tzus or tentacle rape or what have you.
  • At this point, someone will post a new topic here.
  • People will discuss that topic* and the cycle continues.
*Unless, of course, people AREN'T tired of the current topic. They don't have to continue with the new one if they don't want, but come on. Eventually the topic's got to change.

So, I guess I have content in my OP, so here is the topic, suggested by some jerk on IRC:
Freeware Games
I like Warning Forever and whatever else I can find usually discuss some games GO

I've never played freeware games, really. I tend to limit myself to playing SMW hacks on the computer. :|

I don't think there are enough new threads actually, this place moves quite slowly.

The entire point of allowing users to create threads is that they can see a topic and differentiate it from other topics. What if somebody comes in here to continue discussing something, only to realise that it isn't being discussed anymore? Do they just choose to drop the topic, or reference it anyway? This would then turn the thread into an idle chatter thread.

The point of a general discussion subforum is that any topics can be made. If a thread is considered as idiotic and pointless, then people won't reply to it, and it won't be as noticeable as anything that's more meaningful. If you really care about the topics, then you should have just urged people to stop making topics and just join the IRC, because general discussion threads in a general discussion section is not only ironic, self-usurping and completely defeating the point of an entire subforum, but it also duplicates the function of the IRC in a ridiculously inferior and clunky fashion.

Finally, you aren't the great arbiter of what's pointless and what isn't. Again, if people think that a thread's pointless, then they'll ignore it, and it will disappear. Otherwise, the topic does have a point, and people will recognise this by the activity in it. While I appreciate that a sudden influx of shit is annoying, I think that the really important threads should just be pinned, or otherwise, again, people should just be encouraged to take their pointless trattle to the IRC.

When you have good contacts with the mods, do whatever you want.
Otherwise, pray for your life/account

Freeware games"I know far to little freeware games but every now and then I stumble upon a great game and I play it for a week or so.
