How should I handle 3D games?
I recently played a few custom Warcraft III maps against my brother and tried to use Microsoft Expression to record them. Aside from the fact that I didn't register the software (to be able to record for more than 10 minutes), the frame-rate was poor, and the sound cut out after about two thirds of the way through. Now, I know fraps would logically be what everyone suggests for this sort of thing (usually one of the first suggestions I see in threads like this), but I don't have any funds of my own and don't feel like spamming the record button ever 30 seconds...
Since a good Warcraft III match could take much longer than 10 minutes (more if my brother sets the AI to different teams, less if they're both Insane and on the same team), what would be the best way to record Warcraft III?

Have you tried Camstudio? It's free and pretty easy to use.

I have actually, but it seems to give me a "cannot find the video file" error if I record too long... That, and I still haven't figured out how to get the .avi files it creates to work with WMM.
EDIT: Then again, that may be because I'm using the 2.0 version. Who knows? I don't!

You might need an encoder for that. I know I had to get Mencoder and LAME to get these ZSNES videos working properly. Better get a second opinion though. I'm not tech savvy at all.

Alright, I'll look into that. Btw, I just tried to record with camstudio, and got the same results as Expression: Jerky video and fudged up audio. I'd try Taksi (found out about in one of them youtube how-tos), but the darn thing keeps trying to "hook" the splash screen instead of the actual game...

Have you tried WeGame? It's a free alternative to FRAPS, and works pretty well.

I use, for more hardware expensive games, Windows Media Encoder! It is sometimes a little difficult to set up but it works pretty well when you know what you are doing!

Apparently, I don't know what I'm doing... Also, my brother is pissed right now due to mechanical failures on his laptop.

the wme files, are the project files ^^ the recorded files that you get are in the good old wmv format.
But yeah, it is not easy to set it up like you want. It's far away from anything that would be a user friendly programm. Extremely far away from that.
Your WeGame video there looks fairly good. If you are not happy with it (but I don't see why that should be) you could also try the xfire video recorder.
