I think you actually have to walljump. You have to press the jump button a few (4) frames before bumping into the wall to do the jump. Maybe use an extra savestate when in air, so you don't have to do the running all the time.

EDIT: No, you don't have to. I played that part, you have to hold run and jump when getting shot out of the pipe.

I'm guessing they let the player know which exits they've found.

The Exit things tell you which levels you've beaten.

Red = Not done
Yellow= done

A lot of these are not as memorable as you'd think they could be.

A boss fight against Lemmy
Horrible colors

Just a suggestion for the future: do you think you could chipmunk some parts where you have to do the same thing repeatedly? I love seeing you suffer as much as everyone else here, but sometimes it can just get a bit boring, and I have to skip through. I had this problem with Part 16 mostly, not so much in the other parts.
