Mutated Things

Post by Neurovore »

These are just some creatures that spawned in my mind when I was trying to come up with a concept of a landscape that was made out of living tissue and organs. It is home to many parasites and it also spawns its own creatures to defend itself from attack.

This is a type of "ambulate". Ambulates are almost like the "immune system" of the Living Fields. There are many different types but this is what is commonly known as a "basher ambulate". They attack hostiles by bludgeoning them with their grossly-enlarged and reinforced upper limbs.

Stench creepers infest the Living Fields and feed off of whatever biological material they come across, whether vegetable or animal, living or dead. They are akin to vermin such as rats or cockroaches in the Living Fields. They glide along on trails of pus-like material produced from bacterial colonies at the base of their bodies and give off an overpowering odor that drives off most predators.

I love the shading on the first picture.

If a creature was constantly loosing circulatory fluids it would probably not survive very long. However, ambulates have a mucus coating and need to be kept constantly moist like an amphibian otherwise they would become dehydrated and die out.

Eventually, I hope to colorize the picture of the stench creeper which is why I held off on the shading.

I think I prefer the first drawing over the second. I think mostly because 'mutated things' that look like hands (especially ones with a mouth) kind of creep me out for no reason I can really think of.

And maybe I'm just too used to games where characters can bleed for hours on end and not die, but I was also expecting blood to ooze out of some orifice.
