Dang it people, most of the time when I sound frustrated, it's not about the level, it's at myself!

Well it doesn't help that throughout the whole level you're saying "man this level just isn't right" over and over again.

You say it's not because of the level, but because you have a problem with long levels. Well, if the level is too long, isn't that a problem with the level? I mean, this level was more like some sort of joke, like a parody of extremely long levels, what with that fake-out miniboss and everything. It's like this level was included just to bash it into your head that "HEY YOU MIGHT WANNA TRY SAVESTATES"

I think it was this hack where someone said the hack creator even said that he left the hack unlocked so if people wanted they could load it into Lunar Magic and change things about the hack to make things easier on them, as an argument as to why raocow shouldn't mind using savestates considering the creator obviously has no problem with things that are even more ridiculous? I gotta say, that makes me feel like he just eventually gave up and said "You know what? Other people can finish this hack for me, whatever." If I was playing this hack and had Lunar Magic, I'd load it up and put an end like halfway through.

It's not like he didn't have room on the map, either! There's like two long empty areas with nothing on them! He could throw another dot there and be like THERE, AIRSHIP 2. Goodness gracious.

At least raocow makes this hack somewhat enjoyable.

The next submap is even more ridiculous.

It is not like you have never played longer levels before (infinity 1 and 2) and some vip levels of roughly the same length (ok, a bit shorter) where equally as hard or even harder.
I think the main problem is the lack of midpoint.
I mean, the level itself had plenty of variation and despite having only 1 song over and over again, it was actually really good level design.
So when there was a midpoint after the miniboss, you could have just cut it there or something,

But this was definitely not the levels fault. Long levels are perfectly fine. Just add midpoints then.

The only real problem here is that you can't tell how long it is going on for and that you don't know where you can cut the video?

Oh, and the final boss was just poor level design.

Exactly this. I was SURE the level was going to end after that 'core' bit, the p-switch puzzle. Everything afterward felt like it was another stage completely, but there ya go.

Yeah, and the problem is that you don't know how long it will continue. It could easily have been just 3 minutes more after that part. Or 30 minutes like today.

Why not just cut it where you don't wanna play? No one will fault you if you are thirty seconds from the end and you only do one room of the level in your next video.

Between all the plot and the ridiculous level length, I'm getting some major SMI2 vibes from this hack. That said, it's quickly shaping up to be one of my favorite hacks, shame about the slowdown and such.

Oh.....I new that airship final boss sprite was familiar. It's YCZ Pix sprite.

Also, don't you remember the smi2 levels that took an hour to beat even with save states

I know where the big red eyes come from.(In the cutscene.)

Earthworm Jim.
You can find a bonus level in "level 5" which is in dark. After a while, you need to flee from those.

And this video is a perfect example of why I've never used that sprite myself. It's almost impossible to set up a battle with it that can't be beaten by simply waiting for it to run into the shells and die.

The Pix could always be above a rope platform with the shells down below, or something of the sort. Then again, even with the method used in this hack, it could still act as an "endurance" trial of sorts.

Shrug.

The laser fire flower isn't getting enough love here.

I have a hilarious vision of Mario pointing at his enemies and making laser sounds with his mouth, only to find out that it actually works in the future.

Well, to be fair, none of the levels are longer then, say, 25 minutes, to do savestateless, when you've learned them. Of course, this is without counting the time it takes to learn them, but except for the pit of 100 trials none of the SMI1/2 levels took me as much time to beat fairly then some levels in RttC and especially in Luigi's adventure.

The problem is that raocow has a centain expectation on daily progress, and sometimes that just doesn't mix with toolless playing. (Plus, from a level design standpoit, there was really no reason for there to be no midpoint after the first boss. But then again, a lot of hacks are guilty of it).

Jesus Christ that was a long level.
Kind of fitted the theme of the level though.

Aye caramba. Also, as if the lack of midpoints wasn't bad enough, you didn't seem very happy when you recorded this. I mean, even before you started playing. If I recall correctly, your first comment on Runman was something among the lines of "I stopped being funny some time ago" or whatnot. I think you needed some coffee or something, I don't know.

This definitely feels like "My First ASM Hack". Lots of big empty spaces on the world map, the way you end levels just...changes...arbitrarily, a buttload of custom bosses.

The thing is, he didn't make any of those sprites though, bosses included. Also, the level design seems to be picking up in my opinion...

I suppose it's my fault for not making it clear, but I was quoting from memory something someone said the day before.

5-hour-of-sleep raocow still did a good job or entertaining!
but damn, that last 'boss' was to long... they should really have made it faster lol

the old man voice made me watch that part again just to find out if that was you talking or not...

As for nuclear pancakes... I never did like the name also...
and why you cant jump on the red orbs... clearly the creator didn't play/like mario3!

His child hood is not complete!!

ps I have the socks with the patch on the heal and the toes

Holy hell, I totally thought you'd demo all the deaths in the elevator. It's hard to believe you wasted so much time every time you died.

I can't tell what's more confusing: The perspective on that sub-map, or why the hell the BGM is the opening from Haruhi.

raocow, the Renaissance started in 1453 (the fall of the Byzantine Empire and the end of the Hundred Years' War) or in 1492 (the discovery of America)...
