Re: What Now Alex?! Lets Play Springboards Tooless
Dang it, dang it, dang it
I've been playing this thing for 45-90 minutes each day and have yet to even remotely master the final obstacle. Its just so... not fun. It isn't the difficulty itself that pisses me off, it's just the what the game asks of you (tiny, long distance jumps on springboards) feels super-awkward and unintuative; it's like the exact opposite of all the other obstacles.
In the interest of not killing myself, I am seriously considering modifying if not nerfing that part. I want to continue with this LP and I just don't think I have it in me to do another 1000+ deaths.
If I do this, I'll be sure to add something extra in the second half to punish my cop-out. I'll also likely offer to do the whole thing straight (without any modifications) if someone else records a successful run to prove me wrong.
So... does anyone object?

Ultimately I think I should let Alex decide what does or doesn't count as beating the thing seeing as this whole LP was to joke-spite him

IKR? If I sound like I actually care about a one block edit I don't, just to clarify. :Danonymousbl00dlust wrote:so f***king blunt I love it hahahahahaAUS wrote:Eh, after you cheated the first part I don't mind cheating the next part too.

I know I know >_<Jesuiscontent wrote:But... But... your honor!?
I know.
Listen, I think I found a way to do the jump a little more consistently. Last night I spent like 2 hours after posting this update practicing that obstacle. I can get the springboards in place about 25% of the time now, and I can jump across them about 20% of the time. so that's 1/20 tries for that obstacle, and it usually takes me 30-40 tries to get there. assuming I don't improove I could make it in the next 600-800 tries which is pretty good considering.
That being said, I realise this entire LP was prompted as a joke to retaliate to Alex's post. As such I will do the bare minimum of what he considers a successful completion (despite the fact I never took the challenge seriously
EDIT: tuns out this is a moot point because I just FREAKING BEAT THE FIRST HALF WITHOUT CHANGING IT YESSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!
video will be up today or tomorrow depending on how much I decide to edit it.

I've never seen anyone so justifiably exited to have reached the very first checkpoint of a Mario game before.
Re: What Now Alex?! Lets Play Springboards Tooless
Haha, you were so happy. Really great job there.
Re: What Now Alex?! Lets Play Springboards Tooless
Uh-oh. You've gone nearly as crazy as I did after World 5 in Hyper 6. I fear for my sanity should I ever actually beat Bowser toolless.

For the record, did you actually do this once before, or was Alex completely justified?

I really WAS working on it, but I only made it up to that last obstacle before the checkpoint; essentially everything I did in the first video.AUS wrote:For the record, did you actually do this once before, or was Alex completely justified?
In other words he was totally justified and this whole thing is just out of spite

I don't always play videogames, but when I do, I have the power of a thousand suns.

Who said I was stopping? Yeah, beat the whole level: that's kind of my plan ;)Alex wrote:Oh I thought you were stuck at the very last obstacle in the level. Well fuck, never mind then.
Like, I don't see how you don't recognize this all as a joke. I said that I was going to LP springboards and that I had made it to the midpoint (I had made it to the obstacle before but I didn't think that post would become such an issue). You're livid response was something that happened afterwards and was just something I found funny (I had actually assumed you were joking as well but apparently not).Alex wrote:Angry backlash in peteyboo's thread
Try to recognize that I'm actually being pretty nice to you here. If you look at me and my history you'd be able to tell I'm using every ounce of strength right now not to start a shitstorm.

Why did you change your name to fuck?Fuck wrote:I addressed the 'joking' deal in that PM conversation we had a while ago.
The "angry backlash" in his thread wasn't really related to this at all. It was just the fact that you said "I feel your pain" when, in actuality, the stuff you've dealt with in this half-level doesn't even compare the the torment Hyper VI has brought unto him.
Continue with this or don't, I don't care, because I've lost interest.

Re: What Now Alex?! Lets Play Springboards Tooless
I've officially finished the first level. I'm trying to do some voice narration in post but I'm having trouble with the audio levels. Expect a pretty anticlimactic end guys, sorry!
In the meantime, here are some hacks I'm considering trying levels from. Let me know if you have a preference!
Mario in Pain World
Yet Another Mario World
Springboard Challenge
Puzzle of Doom
