Looking at the post on SMWC, it seems like this was only a minor problem that was pointed out about the hack, and there were other, bigger problems that led to its deletion. Hooray for taking things out of context

That is something I honestly don't understand. How they can receive hacks of such... low quality.

Also, Time Traveler, the big problem I have with the removal log, sometimes, is that they put down a whole bunch of photoes, and depending on who writes the removal log it can get really hard to know why exactly the hack is removed, what is the camel back breaking point, ya know?

I guess they get so used to staring at such low quality hacks that they're eyes become trained to spot even the smallest pixels missing. Can't really blame 'em...

The tough thing about rules for hacks in my opinion is that not all hacks are the same; some hacks use ideas that may not work for another in really creative ways (I.E.: floating water). The most important aspect of a hack should be how much fun it is to play. That's why many of the old hacks that had a bit of cutoff tiles are still some of the best (my opinion, of course).

PFFFFT! That is nothing.

This hack, while it being one of the best hacks I've played in a while, has the most cutoff I've seen in a SMWC Accepted hack. There is even a level where you have to "dig" a hole. It uses throw blocks and makes cutoff in the dirt and ground.

I think you have a little cutoff there, pal.

I must be the only person here who doesn't care about cutoff, if the game plays good, it plays good. Sprite glitching is annoying yes. But exactly how long are you going to spend in an area obsessing over a small cutoff? I mean seriously, 4 seconds?

Yes, I personally hate cutoffs. It looks ugly and lazy at the same time.

To me it depends on how much of it there is. I think most of us have gotten used to spotting small cutoff tiles quickly because we hack or play hacks so much. When I've shown friends of mine levels with small amounts of cut-off in them, they don't even notice it, even when it's staring them in the face. They're more focused on playing the level itself.

Cut-off tiles should be avoided when possible, but small 1 pixel gaps next to pipes with bushes behind them should be acceptable. Take this picture, for example:
Image
The bushes set the tone to the area. I don't think the hacker should be forced to never put pipes in front of bushes simply because a couple 1 pixel gaps are made. I know must of my non-hacker friends would never even notice this. I know I wouldn't have if it showed up when I first played Super Mario World.

The only reason I saw those corners is because you mentioned it.

And I played a lot of hacks.

Lately people are just trying to find every single pixel in a hack that looks wrong or cutoff.
I have to agree there, it is annoying.

I don't mind a bit of cutoff. Especially when there is a thing that lets you dig or something as that would mean that the blocks constantly need to be replaced to make it look nice.

And I think this should have a separate topic as it has enough stuff to talk about on itself.

I've seen a hack removed because a single cutoff pixel in the entire level, and I went to try that level which turned out to have fast autoscroll..... How do they notice that?

I think perhaps they may overanalyze some things! From a site which held a contest where one of the judges that "bushes... that blinded your view" was "neat idea"

See, though? A hack doesn't have to be absolutely perfect to be accepted, but it just can't have any major problems.

Omega had that glitchy background stuff as seen in raocow's lp's, and I know that one can be fixed with a patch since it was a vertical level.
I find that as a major problem.
(Although I like that game alot.)

I downloaded a hack and when I got the midpoint of a level it spits me out here
Luigi's Adventure 3_00000.png
Not to mention other pipes that randomly make the stages unwinnable! OBVIOUSLY SMWC is biased and will accept anything from certain people and SHOOT DOWN perfectly good hacks for no good reason. You are all TYRANTS and MUST BE STOPPED

That water kills you btw so you're stuck forever

It also depends on the length of the hack.
I mean, when it has only 3 levels they can easily check every single pixel of the whole hack.
But when it has 100 exits, it takes way to long to check everything and they usually are a bit more lenient towards relatively unimportant stuff.

I mean sure a deadline needed to be made but come on man wargbargle cutoff hacks of an eighteen year old game are serious business.

Also raocow are you makeing a romehax?

Welp.

This is, as far as I can tell, the content of my hack WtH. I envisonned it longer, with a much longer final world, but I believe I am creatively exhausted. I have long proclaimed my distate for 'filler' levels and whatnot, and I have the feeling that, at my level of experience, this is what I can do. Doing more would be cranking more for the sake of cranking more.

This is a pre-release version so you fine folks and peeps with too much time can help me find bugs and such.

I may also have forgotten very important things, please tell me if that's the case!

There are some levels I am not super happy with, and I'm curious to hear feedback about those - however I will not tell you guys which one so the feedback remains neutral and so I don't 'lead' anything.

With that said:

I STILL DO NOT WANT TO SEE ANY VIDEOS ANYWHERE, UNLESS IT'S TO SHOW ME A BUG OR WHATEVER. THIS IS NOT THE FINAL VERSION. THANK YOU.
