Soooo, Raobert, you mentioned something about playing these levels instead of MGU2 in conjunction with your other LP in order to avoid having the combined difficulty slowly chip away at your sanity...? How's that one working out for ya?

well its got a ranking, and the judges's opinion on the level says it's a full on level, so it might just be how its patched or something( I am not an expert on romhacking)

edit: downloaded snes9x(the version from TASvideos) and tested the patch, it starts up with a custom textbox in that black area, which is what propably froze for raocow. (the text boxes progress with the A button, so try mashing that to see if it gets you in the level)

I am actually - sort of surprised that you raged so much at that spectacular obstacle in THY's level. I actually didn't have much problems with it(and I did the whole thing savestateless, too). I don't know, maybe you weren't expecting the difficulty(remember Cave of Elements?) or something.

I still agree very much with your standing on the obnoxiously hard/long levels, though. If you look through the discussion thread you'll quickly find out that 75% of people didn't do as the first post told them too, but look at the brighter side of things - it can only get better at this point.
(Shame it'll be so long until you'll play my level, 5th place, haha.)

Might the 72nd place entry have been using the VWF message patch, by any chance? From playing through the winter contest entries, I remember that one not working with ZSNES's autopatching feature at all.

Yep, that's the VWF RPG messages we're talking about.

Why he even included it is beyond me, because it's not even part of the level. :/

Unless he went under a different name (I just went through the level credits file and all "yoshis" with usernames were YCZ), then no. Not that it makes some difference in the long run (or maybe it does!), people need to stop thinking this ASMT vs SMWCP bullshit is some sort of double standard (they mostly been trashed for similar reasons by similar people). The only "hypocrite" on SMWC's side that you could argue as guilty was Imamelia, and he was already given hell for his contributions to the latter.

Some people need to be better informed.

I'm surprised some of these levels got the score they did when all they did was most likely make raocow want to toss his controller. In my opinion they deserved far lower. Hard =/= fun.

Being a Kaizo hack doesn't make something unfun, and being unfun doesn't make it a Kaizo hack. That's what he meant.
Oh, I know. I'm just being a Grammar Nazi or typo-elitist or something, pointing out he just said that the norm is that anything that isn't Kaizo is unfun, and that Kaizo can infact be unfun, they are not mutually exclusive.

I'm gonna go troll someone else, bye.

And to think that there are more like 71st on the way, most likely. :U Any lengthy road with a promising finish has its less-than-ideal beginning, I suppose.

And it was already stated by the judge himself that there is some disparity within a good number of the entries due to judging these entries out over the course of a week and "forgetting" how bad some entries were. But as constantly said, nobody really cares about THAT (not even raocow himself) except for his fans, or at least the uninformed and ignorant YouTube fans, and ONLY because raocow is LPing this.

Notice how virtually none of them say anything about Vanilla 11, Choco 10, or Winter 10?

By the way, the 72nd place entry obviously was played, but it was most likely something on raocow's end that caused it to mess up. You really shouldn't jump to conclusions on things based on what a Canadian guy sees, feels, and how well he go through a level or entry.

Do those idiots on Talkhaus even think before they type?

Oh, guess you answered that for me.

(spoiler: you should really do some research of your own before throwing up on the keyboard, especially since the mistake appears to be on raocow's end for not patching the file to the ROM. ZSNES's auto-patching feature is getting pretty obsolete these days.)

I think your rage is a bit misplaced, raocow. One user (or even fifty of them in a place as big as SMWC) is not indicative of the entire community's opinions or efforts. No matter how "against the grain" any of these entries are, as long as they're not outright disqualified, then they had to be accepted for the contest. I gotta' say I haven't even heard of most of these people who entered, so...

Now I want to play ASMT completely through and form my own opinion of it. Hmm.

Really? In Vanilla 2010, you only broke the 50% mark at 63rd Place, which scored 25/50.

Meanwhile, today's 71st place has 39.75/60...or 66.25%. If we are to assume that those scores are, in any way, comparable, then these romhacks must be objectively very, very good (compared to that silly 63rd Place), and raocow, me, those ignorant Youtubers, and the Talkhausers don't realize it at all. (EDIT: In fact, 9th Door's 71st place is equal to a Vanilla's 47th place, which scored 33/50 or 66%.)

...or the scoring system is so seriously out of whack that it's incredibly irrelevant if you can't compare between contests.

I believe SNN said that it would have been better had he just grouped the romhacks into three categories instead of giving numerical score. I'd strongly suggest that should be what happened next time, because this scoring really seems rather...subjective.

EDIT2:
VVV Yeah, that's true, but it does make the score themselves fairly useless, and the actual rankings you give to be more indicative of the actual quality of the romhack. But I believe people were critiquing other people for relying on rankings...so, eh. At least it's a good thing you're considering changing the system; hopefully, it'd prevent future outbreaks of argumentation.

Servant wrote:stuff about scores
Universities have this thing called a "bell curve", in which if the average for an entire class is below a certain percentage, it is bumped up. If the class average is, say, 40%, and you get a 20%, you might end up with a 60 after the curve. You're still below everybody else, and as such you're no different. While the scores in this contest obviously did not follow the bell curve structure, it brings up the same point: just because a level has 40/60 doesn't mean its ranking changes. Hell, I could have ranked them all by .01s and given the lowest ranking a 59.14 out of 60.

Point being, the lower entries still suck. Point further being, yes, grouping them together is an idea I want to consider in the future. Once we hit the mediocre entries, they will all be so similar in nature that it becomes impossible to say "this one is better than that one".

Just two things.

- Vanilla 10 had three judges (SNN, Supertails, and FirePhoenix) and everyone's scoring were an average of the three. 24hosmw had one judge (SNN), and uh, yeah.
- 66.25% is not something I would call "very, very good". If anything, it would be fair, passable, or even (slightly) above/below average depending on how you use the scale.

I wish some of my teachers actually used that. It would made me pass a couple of courses (Theoretical Chemistry, I hate you!!)

On-topic: It's actually pretty funny to just skip through the videos and see it progress from optimistic raocow to slightly concerned, to silent and then to angry raocow.
me likey. Possibly so because with some stuff that's going on for me right now, I enjoy seeing others suffer (in this innocent way)

I think that context is the reason why raocow is raging so hard at these levels. If they were in the context of "a hard hack" then he wouldn't have got so mad at them, because he would have been expecting them to be hard.

But the context for this is "a door in SMW", and SMW wasn't as difficult as most of these hacks. So raocow has certain expectations, and a lot of people haven't met up to them, so he get's angry.

It's like farting. In the right context (at home alone) it's OK; in others (in a job interview) it's disrespectful.
