Regardless of if it was an 'engine oversight' I doubt the creator was unaware of it while making world 5. World 5 makes use of many bugs, (AKA: "Engine oversights") and it's nothing anyone should be surprised of anymore.Ometeotl wrote:So what you're saying is that the purple spikes hurting you by touching the bottom was done on purpose, as opposed to being an engine oversight?

That little trap with the blocks in today's video was a pile of jackasserie. Having the kinda "Oop you gotta restart completely" is just rude. I mean..you couldn't leave ONE block empty there? I am aware that that would completely eliminate the challenge of it but honestly. Rude :T
Good luck trucking through this raocow, I hope you're about done. I say this kind of out of a desire not to see this game any more but mostly it's cuz I wanna see you kick this game's kappa ass.

It's not really a big deal in that context, when you can restart immediately from where you were 10 seconds before, and tends to be amusing rather than annoying. In THAT context.

I guess all that Jet practice yesterday paid off.
I think World 5 really is best described as a romhack version of the rest of the game.

When raocow got the Drill, I was this far away from posting, "Now how long until he forgets that he has a Jet?"
I didn't do it, because I figured, you know, it'd be at least one video.
Damnit raocow.

So you don't count all the little quirks of the game as bugs? I honestly don't think the whole dash shoes momentum thing as intentional, and that's definitely required. Not sure if that whole glitching the block you're holding one block up thing was required or if raocow was just being weird, but still. I don't know if you are just disqualifying bugs that are used as not bugs anymore, but that's kinda what I'm saying.Alex wrote:What? No it doesn't. I've yet to see a single bug that is required in this game.AUS wrote:World 5 makes use of many bugs

"Block up a ladder" looks pretty buggy to me. If you were meant to be able to take blocks up ladders, it would/should have been programmed so you could do this easily.Alex wrote:What? No it doesn't. Re: Gensou Tansaku Nitroid!: Now With 100% Less Medicine Phy
I agree with AUS that the momentum bounces with the dash shoes was probably unintentional. Looks like it's more of something they noticed while testing the game, and just rolled with it to make puzzles and tricky jumps.
Other than that I cant think of any instance where a glitch/bug was actually needed, instead of just making the puzzle much simpler.
Edit: Also, 1000th post get.

He's right in this case, though. It's a not-even-ten-second trip from the save point to that part to ultimately get to a sign.Argumentable wrote:I'm mad and your opinion is wrong

Re: Gensou Tansaku Nitroid!: Now With 100% Less Medicine Phy
I first heard the term "hellhole" used in an episode of a fairly generic-looking sitcom I once witnessed (my attention was not quite focused enough thereon the merit the term "viewed") as a child. In it, the generic father figure presented to one of two generic teenage son figures--not angrily, as the words themselves might suggest, but rather with a hint of fatherly pride--the following choice:
"You can stay in that hellhole, or you can go to school."
"School", in this instance, presumably referred in this context to an institute of higher education, whose attendance or lack thereof many individuals decided upon at the age the characters in question were assumed to be. The hellhole, on the other hand, I imagined would consist of a small, roughly circular pit of about half a meter deep, and slightly smaller in diameter. It was alternatingly located in, or directly beside, your classic wooden outhouse, its position constantly shifting between interior and immediate environs, presumably so that we, the mental viewers, could see both the outhouse exterior and the outhouse interior, while also retaining a good view of the exterior limits of the hellhole itself. While in the hellhole, one was compelled to sit in a sort of variant on the fetal position, with one's chin resting between one's knees, and one's arms wrapped around the lower legs at a hight shortly below the knees, fingers interlocking. While in this position, it was also necessary to stare forth blankly but with a noticeably annoyed expression, mouth splayed in a broad grimace which prominently displayed at least one's bottom row of teeth.
When the hellhole was located outside of the outhouse, the scene was displayed in normal colors and with normal motion. When located inside the outhouse, however, it was more typically (but not exclusively) rendered as a pastel drawing in harsh reds and yellows on a black canvas. On the other hand, while outside of the outhouse, one appeared to be compelled solely to stare ahead blankly as described above, whereas inside of the outhouse, one might also have the option of looking upwards with a slightly more animated (but no less annoyed) expression in ones eyes, one's vision fixed upon a single red light bulb located in the ceiling of the structure.
Incidentally, the above-mentioned son figure responded to the above ultimatum with an equally proud "Dad, I'm going to school!" Upon hearing this, the second son appeared quite indignant, presumably as, his brother having selected the alternative option, he now found himself with no remaining choice but to stay in the hellhole.
...That all said, those riddles in this video were a nice little change of pace compared to the other puzzles in this game. Probably not all too difficult to brute-force one's way through with enough patience, but an amusing diversion nonetheless.

also, impressive memorization skills there raocow, that was pretty grand
Re: Gensou Tansaku Nitroid!: Now With 100% Less Medicine Phy
Laughs, learning, and success - what more could you ask for in a video?
Re: Gensou Tansaku Nitroid!: Now With 100% Less Medicine Phy
This would have been the part of the game where I take out the pencil and paper. Old skool gaming.
Honestly, I wouldn't have had a problem with the sages, but I would have NEVER figured out the first puzzle.

Have you got sick of the music yet, raocow? I remember thinking it was pretty cool when you first started this world, but I can't imagine listening to it on loop for as many hours as you must have.

Re: Glitch
I was really impressed with this video in multiple aspects. I honestly didn't know about the first riddle puzzle until yoshicookiezeus told me in the other thread.
I wouldn't say that. The game is far too dependent on the residual momentum to call it a glitch. There's one part in world 4 that also used the bounce, though not the dash after. It only makes sense that you bounce that much after a super-fast dash. The enhanced dash is simply preserving the speed from that bounce. That's more of direct effect from game mechanics, not a glitch of a particular tool.cc12321 wrote:I agree with AUS that the momentum bounces with the dash shoes was probably unintentional.
