Starcraft 2 : you do not have enough minerals

Post by RobinLSL »

The start of a new thing. I'm even making a new thread for it!

I'm playing a multiplayer RTS, also one of the most famous games of the current times, Starcraft 2. It's all on my Youtube channel here: http://www.youtube.com/user/RobinLSL

(man there's a lot of stuff on this channel now)

Basically what you will get is me playing the game in different forms, but mostly 1v1 because this is were most of the interest is at :) I'll try to make this as enjoyable as possible to watch, which should be a decent challenge.

I guess no one in the talkhaus is interested in this game. I really can't understand why it's the case, but hey, what can I do. If I don't get any replies after the 3rd post, i'll just stop updating this thread.

Well, it's not like I'm not interested, it's more like 'I have absolutely no clue what's going on'.
For the people who've never played Starcraft like me, perhaps you could include a quick tutorial?
Just playing with a friend to explain the game's basic mechanics?

I'm actually very interested in Starcraft. It feels like I should be your ideal viewer for this LP series, but there seems to be some sort of communication problem.

I've never actually played Starcraft. I find the community to be great and I've watched a very large percentage of Day9's videos, but for whatever reason, I've been slow to actually start playing it myself. From where I'm sitting, it looks like this series is made for people like me, who are interested, but still on the outside. Unless you're trying to bring in actual Starcraft players for the viewer base, you're probably going to need to rethink the commentary a bit, and it will probably end up as more work unfortunately. It's gotta be done though, because there's just too much of a learning curve for even people like me, with half a foot in the door, to really get into things.

You mentioned in a comment earlier that you weren't going to explain all the 'things' in the game, but I really thing that's what you need to do... somehow. Either with your on the fly commentary, post commentary that you write out (so you can fit explanations for each of your actions and your opponent's actions into the time it takes them to transpire), or with text PKR style (hell even just annotated links to a SC wiki page whenever you say something like 'cannon rush').

I'll probably be watching all of these videos regardless, it might be just the thing that will finally push me to getting the game myself, but it'd be REALLY nice if you could take the time to get the information out there so we understand what's going on.

I'm a huge StarCraft fan, but StarCraft really isn't the best choice for a Let's Play. You're competing against professional commentators like Husky, HD, and Artosis. I'm not being rude here, but give me one reason why I should watch you over say PsyStarcraft?

Thanks guys for at least writing somehing :D

I'm debating on doing an introductio-type video, but the problem is that there's soooooooo much stuff to explain beyond "what units do what".

And to The Doctor, I think that a Let's Play where I play and commentate live definitely has its place in the world and is different enough from your usual casts.
