You know, when you said "maybe I have to spinjump", I think you forgot an important fact: Due to many of the characters not even having a spinjump, there can never be a puzzle that requires it.

Which is very interesting, because a LOT of hacks have a LOT of puzzles in them that are basically "spinjump on [enemy] over pit a lot". Those are completely absent, and I think it's a very good thing - it makes for fresh level design, because a big element of stuff we're used to is missing.

Peach can't spin jump, and Link can simulate one with his downstab.

raocow, for the next red level, you will want to play as Link. There is a key that is difficult to get without him. The secret exit was designed for him.

So don't go down any obvious pipes.

In Lakitu War Zone, pick up the grass on the platform below Toad, or else we are going to have another Pwnhammer situation.

HOLY CRAP! I didn't know that was down there. I thought that thing only appeared in The Invasion 1 (the game, not the stage).

The author of this game sure does like Beard-o. I must say that the storm drain version put quite an interesting twist on the battle, though.

Also, I don't think that's either a samurai or skeleton in the Zelda II castle, but rather some sort of mentally impaired, bipedal fennec fox who's under the mistaken impression that the most effective way to wield a dagger is to hold it perpendicular to one's chest and skip merrily down the corridor.

To up-stab with link, hold up and then jump. You can smash through many breakable bricks that way.

Why do you have trouble with him? Have you ever played Zelda 2? Yes, you can't control how he runs, but he has a sword! Besides, you had depowered 1 heart link, what did you expect?

I laughed at the fight at the end while coughing really hard and spit up a little on myself. That was still the best beardo fight ever, though.

My biggest beef with link, and this may sound weird, is that his main method of attack involves standing still. Like, when a mario character attacks, he's either jumping (being mobile) or throwing a thing, which still enables him to be mobile. Not so with Link, so I just kind of find him unbearably slow. That's why I kind of depend on his jumping downstab all the time, to keep some momemtum going, but I'm aware it's not his most 'efficient' tactic.

Well, you don't actually have to downstab most enemies. A normal hop would do. Only those that can't be killed with a normal stomp (SMB2 enemies, spinies) require the sword.

I was surprised to find the secret area was a recreation of half the first level in Zelda II. That was great! :)

Interesting to note is that the Zelda 2 sub area is actually it's own level if you look at it in the editor. This is why your lives were displayed again when you entered. In the Invasion 2, it doesn't really do much other than force player 2 to go with you, but in other episodes this forms the basis of a SM64 style game with hubs, or and SMB1 game where you go from one level to the next.

One idea I have is say you have 10 levels. You enter level 2 from the world map, find a pipe to level 6, complete level six, and you come out at six's location on the world map.

Actualy it pretty much is. Even in the original Zelda 2, once you got the downthrust, you never stopped using it unless an enemy was specifically immune to it. the original game mostly had you rely on jumping slashes before the downthrust, but it doesnt really work well here due to link's size and jumping height, and the fact that most monsters in zelda 2 would actually stay in your melee range without actually running into you. Goombas and lakitus? Not so much.

Yeah I can see why the princess would not wish to speak with link, he is either Quieter than mario or he is always screaming at everything.
Oh man egg crossfire can be dangerous to your health, cholesterol notwithstanding, the best part was when the pearl hitched a ride, the thing reminded of something you would find in VVVVVV
hmmm was that the second or third time we have had a "Go back where you came from to go forward" scenario?

I have a question for all you A2MT folks, are you guys making/continuing the SMBX/A2MT conversion? I'm really interested and curious in this, and so is what's left of the SMBX community.
