Custom player graphic in SMW Hacks (Move if nessorcery)

I have a long term friend who is making an SMW Hack using a custom character, I have looked forward to this hack when he told me about it. Now I don't know why but he can't get onto sites like this.
He wants to use a custom character, He knows what to use to make it but he doesn't know what to do to make the character look good. The only thing he can make is a crappy guy with a squere head and dots for eyes and mouths.

Do anyone have any good tips?

well I get an 8-bit qualdren and throw alot of crap into it and stuff happens!
