La-Mulana 2 - fish. it is a fish. it's true.

this is the place where lps are being talked about. it's important to talk about games being played on the internet.

My understanding is that it's another global score flag - i.e., once you've progressed "enough" in the game (taking into account all measures of progress), the event triggers.

Spoiler question not for raocows
seriously don't look
why is hell temple the final area of the game again? There was even the nine soul gate to there, so it must of been planned. I was fairly certain that the failed philosopher built it though, and wasn't at all related to eg lana
Nothing to see here

I don't recall there being a justification or rationale given in-game. Presumably one copied the other, but which copied which, and when? Hard to say. Frankly, I think the real answer to your question is "to provoke a visceral reaction in the player."

No explicit reason is ever given, but I think there are two, equally fun possibities:

1. Spiral Hell is a near identical copy to Hell Temple, and Hell Temple had a backside this entire time. This is less likely, but was my first impression when I got there. It's fun to think about at least because it'd answer the riddle for why Hell Temple was the sole area that didn't conform to La-Mulana's construction rules.

2. Note that this isn't my theory, but something I read elsewhere: Hell Temple was always in Eg-Lana, and the ridiculously convoluted method to get there was because it was a secret entrance between La-Mulana and Eg-Lana unknown to all but a very small number.

Welcome to quite possibly the most infuriating field to navigate in the entire game. Especially that part where you transfer from Doom to Gloom. Navigating upwards there is a complete and utter nightmare since everything is setup to screw you over and drop you all the way back down to the bottom, if not in the poison lava pool.

I assume the LM1 Wiiware/LM2 graphics aren't drawn by Nigoro? It's rare to see a programmer with that level of artistic aptitude

Man, Alsedana has said he was dying a few times but his death just really hit me in such a weird way.

Just like, that unexpected message gave me a similar (albeit significantly lesser) feeling of shock and emptiness that real sudden deaths of people in my life do. And I'm not even the one playing, I wonder if it would have hit me even harder if I was.

I totally agree. Alsedana's death is so uncharacteristically poignant for this game, so yeah, it hit me on my own playthrough. Lumisa removing her hat at the funeral was a nice touch, along with other things like the ritual dance and Mulbruk quietly mourning - the developers handled this well.

Regarding the Eternal Prison, I went there early, as soon as I got the requisite mantras. Needless to say, I couldn't really do much. I didn't even have the Clay Doll outfit yet, so that was fun. Pretty annoying without the use of the Grail, especially with all the instadeath traps and tricky enemies that can knock you into spikes and lava.

La mulana2 OST: Wise man who died

The fact its not some big kinda dramatic final speech at his deathbed, and you're just well, basically getting the text that the old relative in the hospital finally passed away and man that hits a bit close to home.

I do like they keep it serious and Lumisa takes her hat off and offers a moment of silence before letting the player goof off again (if you try heading to the funeral in the clay doll suit, she'll take the helmet off)

I think they are. Nigoro is actually like 2 or 3 people, so maybe it wasn't the main programmer making all the assets, but otherwise I'm pretty sure they did all their work in-house with just the small team and then Playism on the side doing localization support. Even the freeware version of La-Mulana 1 had an instruction manual with lots of art in it that matches the style used throughout LM1 remake and LM2, and that was definitely all drawn by their small team.

Only raocow would manage to activate the Alsedana funeral event with exactly 444 gold, lol.

I don't understand the significance.

Also:
How many videos before he realizes he can't actually do the thing in Eternal Prison because he's here way too early? Five? Ten? I get the sense he's entering "A Raving Loon running headfirst into a brick wall for six months thinking it will break" territory

Specifically, you have to buy the Harp and then go talk to Orpheus with it. This is the flag that triggers the pig shopkeeper discounting the music app price from 1500 down to 50.

I'm not sure exactly which "thing in Eternal Prison" you're referencing, or why you're suggesting his visit his "way too early." He's pretty much exploring here precisely when he needs to be, in my view. Sure, he can't do everything here yet, but there's a lot he CAN do and also very important clues to be gathered.
