La-Mulana 2 - fish. it is a fish. it's true.

this is the place where lps are being talked about. it's important to talk about games being played on the internet.

Aten-Ra could theoretically be the third or fourth boss you fight, since you can get to the Dark Star Lord's Mausoleum early through either the corridor of blood or by solving the white pedestals. You only need Heaven, Earth, and Sun mantras and the Djed Pillar to get to the arena, and then just have to chase him around the Gate of the Dead and Mausoleum. I think that's why he ends up being pretty easy, because he can be fought pretty soon into the game. However, I think a lot of people leave him for later because he has an unintuitive way of unlocking the fight, and it's probably not going to be immediately obvious to new players how to solve the Footprints puzzle early on. I remember doing the fight much later because I just didn't connect the dots on the Footprints for a long time.

I didn't expect raocow to solve the pyramid puzzle today.

I thought you had to explicitly unlock the second meaning of the mantras first.

Question about the footprints:
The only relevant symbols to solve the puzzles are the seals and the asterisks, but what about the other two circular symbols? Does anyone here know if they have some kind of meaning in the lore, or are they just meant to be decorations/red herrings? I've always wondered about that.

A raocow never solves a puzzle late, nor does he early. He solves it precisely when he means to!

They're just visual noise to keep you from solving the puzzle without understanding the symbols. I'm all but certain they have no deeper meaning.

I can't believe Ra's ambitious gambit to fuse with Aten was all just to become a layer-2 SMBX boss

I read that the stretch goal for a postgame area didn't get met but they might add it later, was it?

Maybe, the next stretch goal after the last one met would be (from the kickstarter page:) "Evil Stages La-Mulana had the insidiously difficult Hell Temple, and at this stretch goal, we'll add an even more difficult stage to La-Mulana 2. Do...do you even want that?!"
And there is an unfinished area hinted at in the game files (Oanne's Tower) that is speculated to be this difficult stage. There is no sign them actually finishing it though as far as I've seen.

Not sure why this is spoilerd tbh

and iirc he's the only guardian in either game who actually creates life mid battle. I know a couple minibosses can do that, but their spawns are generally just babies or whatever. In a sense, he came the closest to replicating the Mother's power out of anyone.

It's a damn shame he's such a comparatively weak boss. Even in hard mode he doesn't put up much of a fight and in normal mode he's kind of a joke.
the weakness almost seems intentional, like the device he fused to is clearly not designed for combat. The best he can manage is trying to crush you with it, slowly generating small lasers from his hands, and dumping flames from vents as a last ditch effort.

Why does a freeware game get a bonus area but a kickstartered game that you pay for doesn't?

Aten-Ra was a pretty fun boss in my opinion. He's a bit on the easy side despite his insta-death attack but he was one of the better designed bosses overall since he can be fun to fight unlike most. (Though I'm of the mind that Jormungand was the worst one of the lot. There's more difficult Guardians but none was as unfun as he was, even though a lot of the later Guardians tend to be way too difficult.)
FPzero wrote: 2 years agoWhen I played for the first time, I never made the connection that the "spike" symbol was the hint to figuring out the pyramid. Instead, there's a small image of a mantra summon on that same tablet, and so I took it upon myself to figure out what the mantra configuration was to make it look like the image on the tablet, then tried that. Still worked! But I like the proper solution better.
It actually represents Anu (𒀭) as well. One of the few times my external knowledge of history and religion was particularly useful in the game since it clearly marked it as a symbol of note.

This puzzle took me awhile to completely figure out myself. I knew as soon as I saw my second footprint that I should keep track of them and it was all too obvious that the room with all the tablets was relevant to said puzzle but I couldn't recall the La-Mulanese numbers and only had three sigils at the time and didn't want to just brute force it like raocow did. Though I also overlooked the fact there was a second solution for quite awhile.

Because the stretch goal wasn't completed, and development costs a lot of money? I don't know for how long or under what circumstances the first-first game was made but I doubt it's comparable to LM2.

From what I have heard, along with the aforementioned fact that Naramura has done the bulk of the work on the series, midway through development on 2 his biggest co-developer had to stop due to illness, leaving him to pick up all their work. So stuff like that really wasn't on the table for the game at release, if at all. Still,

I've heard reports that they may still put in Oannes' Tower sometime, and lots of unused assets for it are still in the game code, most notably a visible exit in the La-Mulana ruins map into Spring in the Sky which never comes into play.

For those wondering, the "asterisk" in those puzzles is a cuneiform term. It's for

Okay this is a good reason. Like damn

Luckily future video games, such as The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will do away with mandatory religious activity

The reason for the 5 guardian door linking shrine and valhalla is probably that they didn't expect players to use the clay doll outfit to go through the barrier in valhalla and access the Power Altar area. But it is still a bit disappointing.

Question for Voltgloss:
I know you need a mantra combo for the Buried Fortress and the battery, but I forget where that info is learned. Has he seen it yet? I assume he has because he's about at the time where he needs to find the battery and the cog, which I'm fearing will also be a hell of a time for him to figure out. Does he know the mantra combo for Cog access yet?

raocow obtained my personal favorite costume today. Though all of them except the one he's missing (I think at least, I haven't paid a lot of attention to the other two he's gotten actually) are pretty good anyways.

Also that was a strange bug with the five soul door in Ancient Chaos but I'm pretty sure I actually had that happen to. Was rather confusing. I dunno why that hasn't been fixed yet.

Oh man, time for this game's Gate of Illusion! I was stuck here for quite a while but solving all the puzzles was a very satisfying experience.

Question for the vets, because I can't quite remember:
What are the flags for Alsedana dying? I seem to remember it having happened to me by this point in the game.
