shoulda delayed that thread title for the next episode

Joke's End works really well as a contrast to the rest of the game, yeah. Ominous and sterile, kinda like the Hooniversity. I LOVE it for that. Can't praise the music, though...

Turns out Princess Peach is the only economically literate person in the Mushroom government.

I now headcanon that PP is actually a really talented economist. I guess you'd have to be to prevent hyperinflation in a world where money just floats in the air.

Also, referring to today's video: I think the real problem is the Mushroom Kingdom suffers from hyper-inflation the moment Princess Peach even steps across the border. It's as if she's the only person keeping that place from collapsing into complete economic ruin. No wonder Toadsworth gets all upset whenever she even runs into the slightest bit of trouble.

Anyway...I only have one remake note this time, because nothing new really happened here:
  • The breakable rocks look a lot different in the remake, at least the upgraded ones. The Super rocks have a bunch of pock marks on them, while the Ultra rocks are golden-brown instead of black.
So...this dungeon may take a couple videos. It's pretty long. That's all I'm going to say about this.

I'm just marking down a few side areas that are worth checking out, no worries. Not like I'm sending him after every hidden block or bean.

Also I assumed he would tell me not to bother if he didn't want to do any cleanup, but I've been talking about it for weeks and he hasn't said anything so I felt I was probably safe...

So I take it Mushroom Kingdom coins aren't actually backed by or made out of gold? That's some absurd hyperinflation!

How the heck does their economy even function? I mean, I'm no economist, but, don't even socialistic countries require a form of somewhat stable currency?
Probably not now that I think about it, but, still!

As long as the people are provided for. This hurts my brain just thinking about it :ehh:

I was mainly referring to the fact that the surfing minigame finally allows him to replenish Chuckle Beans and Hoo Beans.

But a cleanup sounds like a good idea.

And the discussion regarding how Piranha Bean drops only one of two items reminded me of something I was wondering about:
Does Swing Bros. give you items beyond what you would've gotten anyway? When I played it felt as if it simply gave you early the item that would've been dropped at the end of the battle. And during the final battle with Bowletta and the soul, I don't think it gives you anything since there are no item drops.

Probably not now that I think about it, but, still!

you can literally earn and stockpile resurrections just by wandering the countryside for a while, and the most common food everywhere is so nutritious that it can cause someone to literally double in height and maintain it, too

i'm pretty sure the mushroom kingdom's economy literally just exists so that they have a way to dispose of the ever-respawning mass of coins that tyrannize the land, threatening to swallow it whole and bury every living being in their personal gilded tomb

which they can then collect to get a seventeenth and then eighteenth reincarnation





... why does it feel like this nonsequitur ended up sounding not entirely unlike some egyptian mythology shitpost

Superstar Saga is a bit of an oddball in comparison to how most games, and even future games in this series handle enemy drops.

Basically, enemies have a normal item drop, and a rare item drop.
However, the catch here is that enemies can't actually drop their rare item under normal circumstance.

Instead, in order to get their rare drop, you either have to use

Advance Swing Bros. or the Gameboy Horror SP Accessory.



When the

Gameboy Horror SP

is equipped, all enemies are guaranteed to drop their rare item.

The only time when the normal drop and the rare drop both have a chance to drop is when you use

Advance Swing Bros.


which then does a check/rolls to see which item you'll get.

raocow made a pretty big guffaw at the big numbers today. A long time ago I remember raocow saying that in DnD style games he usually ends up playing a barbarian, or atleast in the barbarian's style, all out offense, solving problems with hyper offense, big hits, brute force, big numbers, and face-tanking. Good to see he's true to his Role-Playing character.

In yesterday's video he hit a Spiny causing 162 points of damage.
After spending every single coin on mushrooms he caused 176 points of damage to a Spiny
There's obviously variance with hammers. but that's a pretty big chunk of damage simply for buying 9 mushrooms and 17 super shrooms and

yes I'm aware it effects every-hit in multi-hit attacks



I wonder if raocow would have used the mush badge and strategy if people didn't explain how powerful the item was, or would he have gone for the raw stats badge? Just curious.

Pretty sure the last time Mario went surfing was in 1455, he was heading towards the landlocked city of Mainz Germany. Nice to see him branch out into body-surfing.

Gonna put on my tinfoil hat here but I've been wondering this whole time if he just knew about the mush badge being broken from the beginning. It's literally the one item in the game that's infamous for making everything a joke, so it's not impossible or even unlikely he heard about it at some point. Hell, I've never bought the thing in any of my playthroughs but I knew about it being broken just from how frequently it tends to get brought up in discussions of the game. It's not like it's incredibly cryptic but he managed to figure out the exploit instantaneously upon reading the item description which is a weird outlier from him generally having a rough time figuring out mechanics in this game.

Eh, I feel like that’s reading into it too much. raocow is an honest dude; if he did know, then he’d have admitted it at some point in the LP by now, I’d think.

he did mention that he had a rough idea of how it would work based on other games he played with similar concepts.

But also, he does not know the true way to abuse of the Mush Badge (and its sequel he isn't aware of) to -really- become crazy overpowered.

The choice Jojora gives is entirely pointless. All the options get you the same snowball lady, or at least ones with the same wig(s) and personality.

Also if Mario and Luigi weren't so beefed, you'd probably see more of Jojora in the fight and the snow person change wigs.

The Jojora boss fight is weird and silly. Everything about Jojora is weird. She just hangs out in Joke's End as a playground, apparently? What's her lore? Why does she hang out with four near-identical golem girls? Does the Bowser's Minions thing feature her? Why did she come here in the first place? Is– was she deAD ALL ALONG

one of my favorite memories about this boss fight:

One time, I managed to get Jojora's cohort a "Burn" status by use Fire. She died from the Burn damage while Jojora was away. It didn't trigger the event where Jojora came back, so then the fight kept going with no targets. When I tried to use jump or whatever, the game crashed with the enemy name being some awkward variations of "ÄÄÄÄÄAasdafaaBbabaASBHporeopA" overflowing from the name tag. it was funny.
