SMWCX - Credits

this is the place where lps are being talked about. it's important to talk about games being played on the internet.

Y'know if IMBH4L joined for this thread, we could snark that he was fully expecting a mob with pitchforks and flames when this day finally came.

You'd almost think that people who watch an LP of a game do so be they aren't planning on playing it themselves or something.

If you want to try and force people to play it themselves, you might as well ask people to not LP it at all. Frankly this just comes across as trying to use raocow as free advertisement.

It's certainly not fair to the other people who worked on this project, that their work will be remembered only as that one LP that was incomplete because of 1 persons decision.

That's .. incredibly stupid, seriously. There's literally no reason to try and force him not to play the finale when the rest of the game has been played up until now.

Did IMNBH4L make this request before raocow started the LP?

...Dude knows that people can just download it and cheat their way there, right?

You can't make any level a true "reward" in SMBX.

I actually play plenty of games I see raocow or other lpers play. Not the majority to be sure but in a game like SMWCX's case I'd normally be far more likely to play it myself after watching it get lped than before. Except when the project leaders make completely idiotic decisions like this. Though I was fairly unlikely to play this one in particular either way. Too many levels that would only serve to frustrate me plus I'm pretty awful at SMBX to begin with.

Completely agreed on the last part though.

I imagine that the dude is in the fetal position at the thought that someone might find out some of the cheat codes in SMBX through an old rao video and use them to negate those passwords or worse of all, get to the finale.

It says something about your opinion of other's work if you have no problem with raocow LPIng the other levels but the finale is too precious to be seen by unworthy eyes.

Perhaps it's the opposite, the only other times I can recall someone specifically requesting LPers to not show the finale is when it's really disappointing and they're trying to hide it.

But from reading the comments of people who have played that far, apparently the finale is just fine?

I don't understand why the request was made.

I like how the dude brought forward his request as an incentive for people to play the game for themselves, but in doing so only achieved that I will never, ever pick it up - just out of principle

Requesting that an LP be left incomplete and without closure after running for over a month is just a massive dick move. I mean at this point I don't even want to see it anymore, I just want to move on to the next game
this is getting laundromatic

I am the most inactive member of this forum in the world, but I came here because of this silly and pretty dumb request to not put the finale on youtube. I don't think raocow likes the idea either from his tone of voice.

Is the person aware everyone could just play the final level immediately in the editor? But I would not play it anyway, cause I have no patience for long difficult levels (I assume it is long and difficult, maybe even bad, that is a good reason to hide it)

Did he make that request before you even started the let's play or did it just come out of the blue now?

If I was in raocows shoes here, I would not play anymore SMWC collabs anymore, who knows what level they want you to show and what levels they want you to not show!

Maybe I am over exaggerating a bit. But I find this situation just stupid!

That's a pretty loaded statement that I find a bit insulting considering I've been the one running most of the collabs there (a reminder that the VLDC7/8 were very well received LPs, and hacks in general). I am also in agreement that this request was stupid and very atypical of SMWC, and it should never happen again.

Don't judge an entire site based on the actions of one user who is really only an active member of the exceptionally small SMBX portion of said site, thanks.

As I said, I maybe I am over exaggerating.
And it's really not the level makers fault, and they want their levels to be played! I should have expressed my feelings differently to not be insulting towards an entire userbase of a website!

I am with everyone else in thinking this is a really dumb request that doesn't belong in the game. This game creator completely misses the point of LPs if he thinks it is necessary to ask LPers not to spoil the final level.

Here's an idea: just don't watch the LP if you haven't played the game yet and want to experience it yourself first without it being spoiled. There's no need for LPers to hide the game's content for the sake of people who would only play it after watching the LP.

Of course, I don't blame raocow for listening the request. I mean what can you do in this situation, add needless controversy between him and the SMWC community by not listening to it, or listen to it and disappoint some people that want to see the finale without playing the game themselves? It's a weird position to be placed into for sure.

Not to mention the audacity of asking people not to show off the final level and making them do more work to avoid showing off the password.
^this.

The request to not show the passwords was already really dumb and insulting, and yet for some fucking reason I still honored it. But not showing the finale? Hell no dog. Respect is earned and you're earning some mad disrespect right now.

As if that wasn't enough, the final level is a boring slog of uninteresting obstacles that take too long to overcome, has severe powerup starvation, you have to waste time inputing cumbersome passwords EVERY TIME you die, you're forced to use Mario, and can't bring powerups from outside.
What a trainwreck. Down with marathon levels.

Also the finale is worth like, a chuckle at most and I'm absolutely BAFFLED as to why it takes two minutes to load.

I think what rubs me the wrong way the most about this whole deal is the implication that you should feel honored to witness his level. That honestly goes against every tenant of creation imo; if anything it's closer to (but not quite) the other way around

It would be literally one person who is upset by it (the guy who made the request). Even then, based on what I've seen in his posts, he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who is going to explode if raocow plays it - that is, aside from this request, he seems like a level-headed and fairly okay guy.

I think it would be absolutely foolish not to politely decline.

gfdi you beat me to it

Good thing I'm not an LPer, so here's the text based versions anyway
Section 1: (1,3) (2,1) (3,5) (4,4) (5,2)
Section 2: (1,5) (2,3) (3,4) (4,1) (5,3)
Section 3: (3,1) (2,2) (3,2) (3,3) (4,2)

because I have opinions about this level's request.

Also, while I was poking around:

ha ha ha ha no, also that's Luna Tower with the colours inverted

Because it uses a "spritesheet" approach to animating scenes at window size, so the scenes that make it up are 400kb non-animated gifs.

I can actually agree more with the desire to not have the postgame end-credits shared, but I guess the big joke is that it's supposed to look like a level.

Ok, not wanting a brief, end-of-game cutscene shown kinda makes sense to me. That said, I'd think the request would have been much better received if the cutscene (since that's not something playable) wasn't its own special looking door. Something like the credits painting inserted into the last level with an exit option to ignore the cutscene would have been a little more understandable. (though, maybe this is just because I remember Zun's request to not share the end cutscenes in Touhou games which are basically little rewards for finishing all of the actual gameplay that the player can see)
