the locker room: Neat gimmick.
the world of blue blocks: Wow, new record for dying at the end there!

a running state/very green: Ooh, nice.
a cavern, and i guess that's where you store a crusher: Neat.
no spin, no ducks: Huh, wow.

Today!

The idiom "red herring" is figurative speech. This has been today's Pedant Corner.

This hack has been really good so far. I don't know how bad or irrationally difficult it gets later, but from what we've seen so far it's got a better batting average than most of the VIPs imo. (That bar's worth whatever you want it to be.)

So yes, there is a secret exit in "PEEK-A-BOO!!" To get to it, you need to solve this huge super complicated puzzle but since you specifically asked not to tell you the solution or give any hints, I won't (spoiler: you're just being your usual self and overlooking obvious things. Surprise!)
The level itself really is pretty challenging for the world that it's in, maybe even more so in the part that raocow didn't get to see yet. It was already made easier in v1.01 (there was an actual kaizo trap at the end of the original level) and there are plans to make it even easier in v1.02 (basically the eeire generator in the boss fight is going to be removed), since some people have trouble with the level and it is a bit rough for world three. I feel like the level executed the gimmick better than the VIPs did though, since while it uses puzzle elements it is never unfair (remember the midway trap in VIP1? Yeah). It's a really solid level over all, although there are two things that you can break: You can skip to the midway point from the first sublevel (nathanisbored shows it off here) and you can skip the moving coins puzzle by putting the p-switch under the door on the sprite only blocks and pressing up as soon as you land on it.

"Slippery Sloppy, Steep Slopes" is another pretty solid level and we'll see a lot more of yogui's creativity later in the hack, his levels are usually pretty cool. It's really kind of too bad that he got himself banned, but last I heard he still somehow submits level to JUMP½ so that's cool.

"Efficient Heat System" is a level where I actually don't really mind the switch-pressing gimmick. What happens usually is that you're either too fast and have to wait around a whole lot, or these type of levels are too difficult and it becomes a pain. I think this level manages to find a pretty good middle ground, and the water changing colors is just a super unique visual effect. To get the moon that we saw in today's video, you basically need to swim further after getting the fourth dragoncoin, but the timing is super tight there. To get it you basically have to hit the switch at the start of the section just as it hits 0 or 70, and even then it's not a given.

Here is the song that plays on the ice submap. It's from the same game as the music on the big overworld.

I'll consider my one contribution to this LP despite not having made any levels for the game to be mentioning that the first level "was a thing". Also it's 98 and not 88, but good enough. :'D

Note that when I said that "PEEK-A-BOO!!" was a thing, note I got as far as the P-Switch silliness right before the midpoint before I said "wow this is silly". As far as I know there's no secret exit, but I'm not 100% sure since I only got to right before the midpoint. Fun fact: when I first played this level in v1.00, that one really silly jump near the beginning where you have to jump through the right side of the goal had no real space to the left, and the moving hole traveled the whole span of that platform, meaning you had to time yourself by jumping over it. It got nerfed in v1.01 and I don't know why that particular jump got nerfed, it didn't really make it any easier in my opinion. :V

Slippery Sloppy, Steep Slopes seems like a rompy little level, something I didn't expect for World 3 at all.

Efficient Heat System is another kind of level I didn't expect at all. I'm usually used to gimmicky water levels where you either have air (or "TOXIC BUILDUP" in Mibibli's Quest) or something else, not necessarily a switch gimmick going back and forth between temperatures. This is a nice variation on that sort of theme, at least I think so.

Tomorrow... I dunno, World 3a is sort of biggish so it could go anywhere.

EDIT: Of course Ryrir confirms a secret exit anyhow as I'm posting. Well ignore my ramblings then!
Because Touhou OCs can in fact exist, sounds fake I know.

I can't change my username but I go by Vali/Claire now (aka call me Vali or Claire at your leisure ^^).

I never update this currently playing section anymore, it's probably an RPG or something.

there's something funny about nintendo sending me an email wishing me happy birthday (due to the miiverse thing, but I guess it's in japan time since it's a day early) and yet like within minutes sending me copyright claims for old Hourai videos :P

Nintendo stops for no one's birthday when it comes to BUSINESS.

To be fair to raocow:

that door

in Peekaboo

could have easily been a reset door.

. Mind you, he could have at least tried it, I suppose.

Today on "Let's Yell At raocow!" raocow somehow totally misses a powerup he uncovers then spends the next 50 attempts still missing the powerup only to die in dumb ways that the powerup could have helped prevent followed by raocow uncovering the powerup again, collecting it, then not even acknowledging it.

Why would you watch a video then pay no attention to it? Kinda makes it a moot point to even bothering to watch it in the first place, no? Not that it really takes paying attention to even catch that in the first place.

There was a rule that you shouldn't place the secret exit at the end of the level, the rationale for this being that playing a level the exact same way again was 'un-"fun" '. Therefore, there is a large number of secret exits located at or near the midpoint, as playing half of a level the exact same way again is obviously completely fine.

So these levels. I never did the normal exit for Siberian Precipice, and Peaks of Revolution made me somewhat give up on the game for awhile because boomerang jumping sure is fun and dandy.

I have attempted one Star World level that I had access to, and I will say that despite it being the "first" one, it's... uh... quite a jump in difficulty, so I would guess that leaving it off until the end of the main game would be a good idea.

Other than said one Star World level, I have noooo idea as to any more levels in the hack, so everything'll be new. Oh boy.

raocow believe me when I tell you you don't want to play the Star World levels yet.
They are borderline Kaizo to outright Kaizo levels (I just know of one Star World level that is doable). They don't even count as exits, so that you don't have to play these in order to get all the exits in the title screen.
I'd advise to play the Star World after you've done everything else in this game cause the Star World is harder than everything else in the game.

What? Of course they count for the title screen.
Anyways, as far as I'm concerned I prefer playing them as I unlock them just so I don't need to play too many hard levels back to back in the end.
