DT3: Everything is Megaman Spikes Edition
DT3 is a hard enough game right? Some rooms are hard enough to kill you a hundred times over. Well while raocow is doing his run, I felt like trying to follow along with one extra problem: Everything is a one hit kill. Sound fun, right? It isn't.
I doubt I'll catch up with raocow, but if I somehow do, I'll continue to progress, but hold up videos until he gets further. Unlikely, since I don't go in completely blind to doing an area damageless. I do a few practice runs until I feel I can do a good recording, then go for it. So far it has gone well, outside of one exception...
Anyway, as for the setup. I just do a section of the game I think is a fitting amount. I kinda had issues with making the videos have much substance with Mario World, but made up for it with Part 4. I don't do commentary on it because I doubt I'll have much to say outside of bosses, I hate my voice, and I can't afford a single mistake in an entire room, so focus is kinda key.
Part 1: Lack of Movement: The Beginning
Part 2: Bowser: The Confined
Part 3: The Enemy Room: BRO NO!
Part 4: Kamek: The Cursed
Also, let this be a formal challenge to anyone willing to do a Nightmare OHK run.

Re: DT3: Dead Hand is Megaman Spikes Edition
Alright, 2/5 the way through Gate 2! Surprisingly, it isn't going too bad so far. I expected it to be a lot worse, since Helmethead is a pretty decent challenge and Forest Temple is confusing. Neither of these ended up applying at all. I'm sure it'll change once I get to stupid fire snake
Part 5: Helmethead: The Twins
Part 6: Dead Hand: The Duo
Also apparently part 6 was auto-ID'd the moment it got uploaded! Heck yeah! When I have time I'll see if I should/can do anything about it.

Re: DT3: Final Nightmare is Megaman Spikes Edition
Waited for a big update, and I make it bigish:
Part 7: Barba: The Quick
Part 8: Jerry: The Thunderbird
Part 9: Final Nightmare: The Lord
Managed to fit all of Gate 2 and B into 5 videos. But problem sections are starting to arise outside of a lone boss here or there. Well... so far it is all due to bosses, and one certain room before a boss... I then proceed to explain/vent in the description at said problem sections.
Biggest surprise personally is part Forest Temple and part Water Temple. Both went really well in terms of finding my way through them. Now until I hit Gate 3, I have a pair of easy sections and also a trip to the Boss Gallery, which will notably inflate my death count a bit. A goal I have for the end of this run: Gold every boss. Or at least as many as I possibly can. I've already done two or three on my main file, but I'll save that effort for when I have 100%. (as is required to even have a chance to gold anything after Mario world)
For now, I count my blessings until Death.

Re: DT3: Dracula is Megaman Spikes Edition
Seems my blessings are few and far between because:
Part 10: Control Virus: The 01001000 01101001
Part 11: Dracula: The Silent (Dracula muted because Konami)
So far I've had more trouble with the trip through the forest more than anything else, and my original name for Dracula (The Telefrag) happened a few times in practice, due to the final phase having an instant teleport into the middle.
Either way, like I said in the video description, I feel like I will finish Gate 3 in 2 more videos, 3 if I give Death his own. Which... being the event that he is, I may end up doing it.

Re: DT3: Everything is Megaman Spikes Edition
Just popping in to say I'm loving this playthrough, since you seem to be getting a disappointingly low amount of views. I love high-skill playthroughs of hard stuff, and that goes double here - it's almost a totally different game when you don't get to tank through anything at all. Keep up the good work!

Re: DT3: Everything is Megaman Spikes Edition
Nah I expected it. I kinda popped in outta nowhere and started being all "Hey I'm also doing a thing too." This is more a thing I really wanted to try, especially considering those specific sections I myself had to tank through. Figured there might be a few people who also want to see this kinda thing done too. I also like that I'm making use of my acquired skill to kill bosses a lot faster than I expected with current equipment.Cirno wrote:Just popping in to say I'm loving this playthrough, since you seem to be getting a disappointingly low amount of views. But yeah, thanks for your view. I agree on the completely different game bit, and hope you enjoy what is to come. (aka my death by death)

Re: DT3: Death is Megaman Spikes Edition
And then this happened:
Part 12: Dashing: The I-Frames
Part 13: Menace: The Big(ger) Brother (I'd mute the copyrighted audio, but the entire videos would be silent)
Part 14: Death (I went and let him have his own video, the special snowflake)
He was not nearly as bad as I would expected he would be. Knowing his general actions and retaining any bit of muscle memory was a huge help. The big problem was realizing two of his combos involve the same attack twice in a row. (Dash, dash, stay) and (Jump, jump, dash) Then I have to muscle memory myself into expecting an order of three different attacks, breaking out of that to do the doubles, then back into remembering there are 3 different attacks.
Either way, I managed a lot of progress over the last few days. Kinda wanted to get Death over with, I guess.

Re: DT3: Megaman Spikes is Megaman Spikes Edition
I've been unable to upload for the past week so I am behind. Have ALL OF THESE!
Part 15: Blackmoor: The Rising
Part 16: Enmity: The Infected
Part 17: Overdrive Ostrich: The Other Bird
Part 18: Storm Eagle: IT'S STORM EAGLE!!! (bonus points if you get the reference)
Part 19: Bospider: The Spider Boss
Things are starting to get very tricky! And Gate D is evil for me.

Re: DT3: Myself is Megaman Spikes Edition
I was planning on another post update as soon as raocow finished the vault, but things don't always work out the way you want them to. But I at least was able to get some stuff practiced and recorded in the meantime. Maybe I'll be able to catch up to raocow by the time he reaches Gate 6. Either way, here is progress.
Part 20: Sigma: The Doomsayer
Part 21: Army Eye: The EXPLOSIONS?!
Part 22: The Abomination: The Chaser
Part 23: H̛͙̳̜̗ͩͭ͐̏̋̀͋̀̚e̠̲̘̜͚̰͓͋ͯ́͞x̸̠͇̝͙͍̙ͦ̄̓ͮ́ͅ: The Imprisoned
Part 24: Shadow Form: The True Self
Sigma is cool but not too hard, and the Vault is platforming fun. Hex doesn't like me, and neither does the nightmare gate. But hey! They went by without too much issue. At least not as much as I expected.

Re: DT3: Zebes is Megaman Spikes Edition
So Gate 5 happened. Gate 5 did not like me. Long areas of chip damage are not conducive to survival. Luckily, all of the bosses went really well... Well, there's one exception in Mother Brain. But otherwise, really well! The rest of the area murdered me super hard. My death counter jumped about 200 deaths, which doesn't seem like anything new. Yet the places they happen all concentrate into small areas, rather than spread through the entire gate.
It's strange just how much of a 180 this area takes. I really do feel like Gate 5 is one of the easier places just because of there being so many full heals in your forward path. Losing all leniency changed how this area feels. It even nears aggravation for me. But I bring this on myself, it isn't the game's fault. It would be just as bad if I tried beating Super Metroid without taking damage.
Part 25: Vault Demon: The Burned
Part 26: King Worm: The Pathetic
Part 27: Arachnus: The Not Hedgehog (I liked that room title too much, my hat is off to you)
Part 28: Kraid: The... Still Kraid
Part 29: Ridley: The JUST DIE ALREADY
I am very much looking forward to Gate 6. But first... three bosses before I reach it. And some items!

Re: DT3: RPGs is Megaman Spikes Edition
Boy, it has been a really long time since I updated this... But I plan to be more active now that raocow is almost done with the game. Perfect time to catch up.
Part 30: Sand Crawler: The Hungry
Part 31: Malevolence: The Dark Dweller
Part 32: Leviathan: The Bullet Storm
Part 33: The Stone Golem: The... Stone Golem...
Part 34: The Unforgotten: The Forgotten
Part 35: The Trivia Lord
Part 36: Sephiroth: The One Winged Angel
Part 37: Cleanup: The World
This covers from post-Gate 5 all the way to the end of Nightmare G, into world clean-up. Neo-Grime isn't too bad, and Gate 6 and the nightmare are both amazing. Especially the Nightmare. I did however find it less enjoying the first time. There's very few satisfying bosses here. Even for as short as Sephiroth is to kill, he's super satisfying. Long bosses like the Unforgotten and The Chosen One aren't quite so.
As much as I have a few moments of extreme death, the next dungeon is where death becomes way more common. I actually stopped practicing areas early on, and stuck to only practicing most bosses, to get a more accurate death count. I regret this decision very much so.

Re: DT3: CHAOS is Megaman Spikes Edition
Here we go. I made a big push to catch up to raocow. Play a chunk every day, and being I do longer episodes with minimal deaths included, I would catch up very quickly. Plus a good chunk of videos were made way before upload. I just couldn't get them up because home internet is not very good.
Part 38: Turret Defense: The Mega
Part 39: Sera: The Guardian
Part 40: Malignant Ooze: The Blob
Part 41: Brain Machine: The Strike Chain
Part 42: Advanced Combat Apparatus: The Wordy
Part 43: War Room: The Lengthy
Part 44: Defective: The Worthless
Part 45: Shadow Eura: The Puzzle? Boss
Part 46: Mother: The Nightmare
Part 47: Decimator x0000: The Pete Blaster
From here, I am all caught up. Next update will be the second to last, or so I hope. I'll include the Warship, the alternate ending raocow missed by killing the abomination, the Abomination fight, and everything else up to the ending. Then hopefully I'll eventually do one last post. It will be one video on as many Gold times I could manage, hopefully all of them. I said I wanted to try it, and still plan to.

Re: DT3: The End is Megaman Spikes Edition
I've done it... I finally did it. Distorted Travesty 3: Saved Game 100%... on Achilles mode.
Part 48: The Warship
Part 49: Hex: The Demigod
Part 50: The Abomination
Part 51: Hex
Part 52: CHAOS Warmaster
Part 53: The End
The Abomination went way better than expected, and Hex is still a super painful fight. The Warmaster fight... this is an entirely different beast in Achilles mode. I feel like I could beat him with 0 deaths in a casual setting now. This was a ride, but definitely worth it. Will I ever do it again? After attempting Gold times? No!
I probably should have mentioned, I have extended thoughts and all in each video's description. If they were here, I'd need a good 5 posts to fit it all in I bet. That's the pitfall of not doing commentary and having sporadic times to upload/post.
