Well, technically it's not a Ghost House, but the Ghost House music is playing almost the entire stage.era64 wrote:There was a Ghost House in World 5? The more you know...

Yet another reason that zsnes is the bestsnes is that it allows you to both see and not see the bottom of the screen, cycling between these mystical states if you press the button '8' on your keyboard.

Oh man, raocow asked about Jellyfish, time for my degree to finally shine!
Jellyfish are indeed alive! and unlike almost all the other animals in the ocean are doing really well.
The thing is about jellyfish is that they only have 2 simple body layers (as opposed to us which have three). To give you reference for what this means, our three layers basically form our, skin* (ecto), Musculature (endo) and Organs (mesoderm)
Basically what this means is that Jellyfish have two thin layers of cells. Think of a jellyfish as being a plastic bag inside a plastic bag. You might notice that two plastic bags would make for a very flat animal. That is why jellyfish fill the cavity inbetween their inner and outer layers with a non-living mostly water substance called Mesoglea.
But yeah, Jellyfish are super gross! since as animals they have no real brain and that have a single orifice...from this single orifice food, waste products, and gametes are exchanged. Box jellyfish having incredibly painful stings doesn't help their reputation either.
But even though they have no brain and just a weird radially-symmetric nerve web, similar to Mario's Jellectrodes. Real jelly-fish actually have eyes! They are within sensory organs called rhopalium.
Cubozoa (Box Jellyfish) in particular actually have surprisingly good eyes. The eyes are good enough to form images but not focus on objects. At the same time, for an animal that doesn't have a brain they can exhibit complex hunting behaviors and (iirc) are capable of using their eyes for hunting.
The ectoderm layer for your skin is contiguous with the throat and thus this explanation is simplified.

Re: VIP 2 Revival; NEUF: the segment with the deceit
Fun fact, jellyfish are most closely related to corals.

Re: VIP 2 Revival; NEUF: the segment with the deceit
Jellyfish are also a huge problem in Japan, and possibly other Asian countries, as they are overtaking and clogging up coastlines and harbours. The fishermen that have to deal with them just cut them up and destroy them, but that just helps them reproduce even more...

Three important threads for me:
Re: VIP 2 Revival; DIX: the segment with the familarity
Yeah, World 4 is overall slightly lower in quality than the previous worlds, but I still like those two levels, since they are slightly interesting and not that hard.
I didn't mind the elevator segment in Z, but then again I would probably have a different opinion if I didn't beat it first try. :P

Re: VIP 2 Revival; DIX: the segment with the familarity
For some reason 'Z' (or to go by it's Latin name, "LET'S RESET"), was one of the few levels in all the VIPs that has always stuck out in my mind. It's weird, because if it wasn't for the whole 'you go in a pipe and now you're stuck here forever' gimmick, it would be one of the most bland levels in the entire game. And since avoiding the 'gimmick' is so simple - there aren't really any obstacles that make you want to duck on a pipe - the gimmick may as well not exist, making it one of the most bland levels in the entire game.
Perhaps some part of my mind has internalised raocow's shout of "LET'S RESET" from his previous playthrough, weaving itself into my psyche for the rest of my life. Maybe I should ask myself some important life questions.

Ugghh. That elevator segment was horrible. It's blandness and emptiness lure you into a sense of complacency, getting you killed, and making you have to repeat the bland, empty segment over and over again. And putting that infinite loop in the first part of the level is just mean.
This fits me far too well:

Re: VIP 2 Revival; DIX: the segment with the familarity
This is all reminding me of things SMW did. Forest of Madness is reminiscent of the Forest of Illusion in particular.
Except that pipe thing to darkness. Though it DOES warn you, so there's that.
The elevator is fine in terms of what it's doing, but it's simply too long, and shows the problem with slow autoscrolling in long stages.
...Also, for the sake of curiosity, what happens if you kill that goomba?

I am prone to almost everything... except spontaneous violence.

Re: VIP 2 Revival; DIX: the segment with the familarity
You could translate it as 'gj' because that seems to be the English-Speaking Sarcastic Internet User equivalent.Horikawa Otane wrote:See I was dubious about the Z translation. Like the level name IS Z, but I'm kinda guessing it's a quasi-pun on 乙... Which is like "man you worked hard, you must be so tired/thanks for your hard work," but used sarcastically re: the level/player.
If you wanted to get really meta you could use Japanese symbol(s) that look like gj but I don't know if one/they exist(s).
Re: VIP 2 Revival; DIX: the segment with the familarity
Some quality levels today.
The first line of the message box in Muncher Nest (まーさーと るったらー) is meant to be sung with the music. It should probably be retranslated to something that works better with the music.

Could someone explain why the secret exit for that first level needed a P-switch because I don't see it

It doesn't need the p switch, which points the 'useless item' theme.
