I see today's episode is named after professional wrestler Kazuchika Okada. I didn't know raocow knew about NJPW.

Re: ¡Guacamelee! - Lluvia Ácida
raocow in a chicken suit: powered by Satan, Jesus, and a trans-dimensional witch. I think between the mask bringing you back, stopping your body from decaying, and the ability to swap between worlds, You are now effectively an immortal.
Also, the amount of things giving you powers in this game is pretty absurd and between all the ones you have I'm sure you match the description of a god of death to some religion out there.

After what happened in japan now i nominate Styles Clash for a new episode name.

Gotta say that I"m loving watching this game! It's beautiful and flowing and makes for a great spectator and player experience. Not to mention I'm a sucker for Mexican and general North American aesthetic and designs.

Gotta say I love the title I gave this post.
So yeah, after faffing about we finally confront X'Tabay. Her first phase isn't particularly difficult aside from the splash of purple-white flies--after she fires them off, you simply tackle her with a good combo to chip off her health. The second phase is basically the same, except with red spikes over a slightly smaller platform. Yet on the last half of her health she really steps up her game with dodges, self-missile launches, and after you chip off more health two clones of herself that come with a "killer rain fury" attack (though I think that attack can come as early as half-health). Once you keep up the pressure on her, however, she'll relent and tell you Calaca's backstory.
Additionally, raocow's right about the power she gives you--Dimension Swap--being the start of the real Guacamelee. The other half of the game from this point on will make you rely on this power to get through all manner of obstacles as well as find hidden secrets and the like.
Speaking of which, remember that switch back in Forest del Chivo? You'll want to keep it in mind since you unfortunately don't have the right special move to get to what it activates in time. Maybe later, just before the final dungeon.

Too bad for you, AJ Styles is confirmed going to WWE (as are the Machine Guns and probably Shinsuke Nakamura if NJPW doesn't offer a better contract). He'll possibly be a surprise entrant in the Royal Rumble.Fapnoob wrote:Check the comments on Episode 9. Re: ¡Guacamelee! - An Enchantress and her Lost Love
Sorry this is late. I was doing other activities.
That poster at 8:36 in the video, if I'm not mistaken, is depicting Batman and Bane.
You beat X'Tabay in a single try? That's pretty impressive... I needed to spend a bit of time getting pulverized before getting my act together on her first phase. I also forgot that her clones gave out health...
Carlos is quite a tragic figure, really. He has good writing for a villainous figure.
Now you can dimension swap! This opens up the whole world to you (almost), and makes treasure all over the place available. I feel an exploring episode soon...

I am prone to almost everything... except spontaneous violence.

Re: ¡Guacamelee! - An Enchantress and her Lost Love
If I recall correctly this next dungeon is the one I mentioned earlier where saws were introduced in the gold edition. I hope that section I mentioned was redone because it was obnoxious as hell to get through.
She's not actually all that difficult. It only took me two tries myself for much the same reasons raocow struggled early on, though in the gold edition they never even make it clear that certain attacks aren't dodgeable.Zephyr_DragonLord wrote:You beat X'Tabay in a single try? Have to say that the whole introduction to the story and everything was pretty awesome. I wonder what is next.

Re: ¡Guacamelee! - Perezoso
Really? I could have sworn her hits are weaker than Juan's, plus her jumps seem to be higher. Or maybe it's the Gold Edition I've got, which has epileptic seizure inducing flashing screens whenever Juan/Tostada earns a new move.Alice wrote:And iirc the only difference between Juan and dead lady whose name I'm completely spacing at the moment is that the mask is red instead of blue.
Re: ¡Guacamelee! - Perezoso
I'm going off the gold edition myself. She definitely does not jump higher or if she does it's such a small enough amount to be a totally pointless (and unnoticeable) change since it doesn't make her actually capable of jumps Juan can't make. I'm pretty sure she hits just as hard too. The majority of the differences between Juan and Tostada in any form are just visual.ztarwuff wrote:Really? Re: ¡Guacamelee! - Perezoso
As far as hitting just as hard, it is difficult to tell, though, without the damage gauge. I just feel as if fights don't go as quickly as they do with Juan. Which is a shame, because I agree with raocow: playing as her is just visually more appealing.Alice wrote:I'm going off the gold edition myself. Now that is a title of a vid I can completely get behind. If you know what I'm talking about, you're doing the pose right now, aren't you?
Re: ¡Guacamelee! - Lluvia Ácida
Oh boy, we now have the main gimmick of the game with us. Changing dimensions is a really interesting mechanic, with a good amount of uses.
Oh, and sorry for the lateness of the references of yesterday's video. I hope that there is something left for me to explain.

raocow was saved a few times over by the chicken suit during that fight. Also, he never used intenso during that boss fight either. Or showed off CHICKEN INTENSO!
raocow, you should go to that one house where you asked "Why would you ever go down there?" and try dimension swapping in the lower left room.

Re: ¡Guacamelee! - Lluvia Ácida
So the powerup to break those chicken-egg-lookin' purple blocks is entirely optional right? Because I got up to what looks very much like The Room Before the Final Boss and don't have it (I assume it's equivalent to the morph ball bomb)
Don't spoil how to get it, but I think I might know anyway.
