For people who beat the game already, how many times did it take to beat the final boss the first time? For me, Azurel was 125 deaths, and the final boss was 994, which feels ridiculous.

461 times. I don't know my Azurel count, but Supreme JJ was by and large the most by a huge margin.

Azrael is the name name ascribed by tradition to the Angel of Death (a.k.a. the "Grim Reaper") who, while never named explicitly in the Bible, is depicted with a scythe and wearing pale-green robes. Gargamel clearly liked the name and thought it was appropriate for his pet cat.

Azurel in this game might be named after Azrael with an intentional mutation, might be named after an obscure angel I'm not aware of, or might just be a made-up name knowingly (or otherwise) following the -el suffix on Hebrew names meaning "Of God". Ariel means "God's lion" for example.

Solgryn has all these plot conviniences to explain why the angels can't do this or that, but there's no explanation offered as to why Amethyst will span platforms behind you. Even something as simple as "I have very limited control over this" would've been something.

It's probably the biggest thing that bugs me about the game story-wise.

Alright fair enough, I missed that. That's on me. It's still kind of absurd that that manifests itself like that, and Amethyst can help fight enemies easy-peasy, but the game did say something about it, so I was wrong.

I didn't comment on it last video, but this is the best looking area in the game so far. And this looks to be the first good boss since Electram.
