Sure, everybody knows about Touhou, Crimzon Clover, and Ikaruga, but have you ever heard of a game called Hellsinker? Well, there's a reason this little gem has fallen into obscurity...
In contrast to most danmaku games, the first thing you see when you boot up the game is a prompt for you to enter your name, and then you are presented with the above screen. In my opinion, Hellsinker has a much more intriguing story compared to most shmups, however I won't spoil it in this post.
Now back to why the game fell into obscurity. Let's just say that almost everything about the game is incredibly confusing without a guide. Let's take a look at the final stage of the game. I challenge you to try and figure out what's going on and what the different meters mean.
Did you catch all of that? One of the interesting things about the game is that all of the characters have different types of attacks depending on different ways of combining the primary and secondary attacks, not to mention that tapping the fire button or holding it down will result in different attacks.
That's about it for this first post. I only recently acquired the game, so I need some time to do my own research on the story and mechanics.
