Fave RPG endboss

Post by KobaBeach »

hi hello

i wanted to know what is your favorite human-turned-archangel or evil necromancer or whatever the fuck

somewhat inspired by bkamakaze's post on en gardevoir's fave fightan endboss thread

my favorite rpg endboss was

Ultimecia from FFVIII

she's easy as fuck (granted my entire strategy was RENZOKUKEN, SHOCKWAVE PULSAR, ARMAGEDDON FIST, rinse, repeat) but her entire battle is amazing in terms of presentation

also four phases goddamn (technically three considering you fight against squall's fursona but)

although technically kefka did have four phases too if you count the battle with the statue of the gods but

the Seven Heroes from Romancing SaGa 2

were neat too
can you say seven attacks in one turn 'cuz i can

abusing the quicktime glitch is for dorks

i'll probably update this list the more rpgs i play
that is if anyone even posts on this thread

God that thing was a frikkin' marathon
Not exactly super difficult, but the atmosphere, music and sheer length was super neato.
Plus, look at that design, beautiful ♥

The ones I remember liking to fight the most were Kefka (FFVI), Sephiroth (FFVII), and Myria (Breath of Fire III). Helps that all three had great songs. Sure, they can all be downed pretty easily if you know what you're doing, but the buildup for the first two was worth it, and the third one was a nice callback to the original game which they also built up over the course of the game's second half.

Edit: And seeing the Mario RPG stuff mentioned below totally reminded me of Fawful/Dark Star and Bowser from the last two Mario & Luigi games. Those were also awesome.

I have a soft spot for the final boss of Mystic Quest.
Beyond that I love the Golden Sun (series) Mid and End bosses.
and the majority of Mario RPG bosses.

Special mention goes to the final boss of .hack//Infection.

Probably a toss-up between Xenoblade, and Earthbound

I like Mother 3 and many of the Final Fantasies' endbosses as well

For me, some of the Mario & Luigi game final bosses were pretty cool. I especially liked the Dark Bowser/Dark Star Core fight from Mario & Luigi Bowser's Inside Story. That was absolutely epic as hell, especially when you get to punch the hell out of the weakened boss afterwards.

I would also name the final boss from Mario & Luigi Dream Team, but I prefer the fights with Giant Bowser and Antasma to the actual final boss. The former especially is one of the most varied, cinematic bosses ever featured in an RPG game.

I grinded the hell out of my characters after I finished Bowser's Inside Story and got to the point where I could kill that boss with one attack. Good times

The Elder Princess Shroob Transformed fight at the end of Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time always stuck out to me. Not only because it's from my favorite game in the series, but also because of the weird emotions you get out of the fight and the leader of characters that you couldn't even understand most of the time. I thought the Shroobs were very well done considering this. The music is awesome as hell, too.

An honorable mention goes to Xion at the end of Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days. So much emotion in my favorite KH game, and that just seals it.

Oh god, yeah, Xion is amazing. Technically there's another boss after her but hers is certainly the climax, and it is an AMAZING one.

Similarly, The Queen from OFF is not the final fight but it's the climax, and it is perhaps one of the coolest parts of one of the coolest games. I especially love how she attacks with insults and other words.
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

The Shadow Queen

from Paper Mario TTYD. I had seen glimpses of her before due to my tendency to collect player's guides back then, but I remember when I got to that point, the mood suddenly felt way darker than I expected. The

candles suddenly turning black, the purple jagged text box that had never been seen up until that point, the cutscenes of shadows englfing every area you had been to in the game

, the music, and even the boss's appearence (

both forms

) just made the perfect atmosphere for an intimidating final battle IMO, plus a Paper Mario boss with

triple digit HP

was pretty intimidating itself back then! The fact that I was at my dad's apartment at the time and everything felt more intense in general whenever I was there probably helped. I also remember actually having a lot of trouble with her for a good long while too.
