Edit again because I've already triple-posted: I just noticed that the music for Mechdragon's section got switched to the main music for the stage.

KingTwelveSixteen's section is neat, but I'm finding the difficulty unreasonable.
Edit: Just beat it legit after way too many attempts. I like the concept but the execution is seriously off.

Re: MaFAB Relay Level(3 quarters, one more and i have a dollar?)
hmmm, that got me thinking... now, I stopped playing the relay levels so I could see the entire thing in one go, but will you guys be needing some playtesting? to maybe iron out difficulty spikes, like Fogel said? I'm not sure if thats something y'all are even considering, since each segment has an owner and we may not want to just change them like that...

Ill give Mina a few days to reply, if nothing then we'll let Horikawa do her thing then close this upDragon Fogel wrote:Well, it's down to you and Minnakht, so I guess the question is if Mabel wants to give them one last chance to show up.

downloading King's revision right now and I'm going to open it, look at it bewildered, try to figure out where do I even add anything, maybe add some crappy little thing and pass it over.
I'm really sorry about all this.

You can put stuff after the last section that has things in it.
Re: MaFAB Relay Level(3 quarters, one more and i have a dollar?)
Progress is being made, I might be done in about 5 hours. Not home atm, I'd say it's 1 hour of work and 4 of me being not home, work might take longer

Forgive the double post, but I'd like to announce I'm done. Hope I'm not breaking any rules by making my boss what it is.

The boss will be Horikawa complaining about how the MaFAB Relay has increased her workload

your section is super laggy, like not even playable laggy.(even sound disable is barely passable)Minnakht wrote:Forgive the double post, but I'd like to announce I'm done. Hope I'm not breaking any rules by making my boss what it is.

Horikawa, you're up!
also do you mind if I change the music back to the main track? something about SMBX's default music bugs me to no end and the main track is much more fitting in your section

Re: MaFAB Relay Level(3 quarters, one more and i have a dollar?)
From what I can gather, Minnakht's section features moving layers, right? Moving layers are SUPER slow in SMBX. Only about 5 can be moving at once in any one level before the lag makes it unplayable. A fix is being worked on in LunaDLL (which has already patched the mushroom lava bug), but for the mean time, we have to avoid using a lot of moving layers.Mabel wrote:your section is super laggy, like not even playable laggy.(even sound disable is barely passable)Minnakht wrote:Forgive the double post, but I'd like to announce I'm done. Re: MaFAB Relay Level(3 quarters, one more and i have a dollar?)
Hm.
I'm moving all of 15 blocks on 2 layers. It worked fine on my computer, and I took about ages longer than I wanted to trying to make it work.
And, to be fair, it still doesn't. I don't know what I did wrong, but currently it's a kludge where Brownie moves based on a bunch of lua ifs and the spikes move based on the smbx events. Maybe lua is working for you and the two ifs in lua code are succeeding at struggling for dominance over the spikes. This can be solved in two ways - don't make the events move the spikes, or comment out the lua. In the former case, the speed value on the event is right, please use it.
Maybe I just messed up the conditions on the ifs or something.
Also, I don't mind the music. Set it to whatever you will, Label, you're the boss.

Re: MaFAB Relay Level(3 quarters, one more and i have a dollar?)
You might be, but I'm pretty sure there are other moving layers in the level, and if those aren't stopped, then the number of moving layers stacks up.Minnakht wrote:Hm.

It might be worth someone taking a look at the Lua anyway, to see what's going on. If you want an example of layers being moved by Lua, you may want to check my level in the MAGLX Lost Levels subforum (qqqqqq). The secret exit has a moving layer, and uses eventu to control exactly how far the layer moves, allowing it to stop exactly on a block space, which is something that's difficult if not impossible to do with regular SMBX.

the brownie layer
could easily just be a friendly npc provided there are any left not in use. Also the other layer's speed could be set in onLoad, if I'm not mistaken, and then set back to 0 when it gets where it's going.e: I mean onLoadSection[that section], not the actual onLoad.

Eventu, huh.
Hoeloe, is there a way to talk to you in real time? All this bumbling around with lua makes me want to just ask you questions as soon as possible after I encounter anything bewildering.

Re: MaFAB Relay Level(3 quarters, one more and i have a dollar?)
Sure, I'll PM you my Skype info, if that works.Minnakht wrote: Well, I stop mine.

Also, actually setting the speed of a layer is also very expensive, so only do that once if you're not already.

Re: MaFAB Relay Level(3 quarters, one more and i have a dollar?)
Well, there's the problem then. Because right now I set the layer speed in onloop.
I'll look into eventu and try to fix all this. If I mess around with my lua, it should be easily mergeable into Horikawa's revision.
Also, Skype info? Sweet!

Re: MaFAB Relay Level(3 quarters, one more and i have a dollar?)
Eventu is a useful library for scheduling things. If you want something to happen after a certain number of seconds or a certain number of frames, it's perfectly equipped to deal with that. I believe the version currently included in LunaLua is outdated and a little buggy, though, so you may want to get an updated version if one hasn't already been included.Minnakht wrote: I'll look into eventu and try to fix all this. Re: MaFAB Relay Level(3 quarters, one more and i have a dollar?)
For what it's worth, I didn't have any lag problems with Minnakht's section, maybe it's just that my computer is good enough. The section itself is pretty tough, but I got through it after a few tries once I realized where I could actually jump.
I still think KingTwelveSixteen's section should be toned down. There are other sections I have trouble with, but that's the only one I actually find frustrating.

Re: MaFAB Relay Level(3 quarters, one more and i have a dollar?)
Or at least give the player a midpoint after King's section. If it takes a few tries to get through mine, I'd like them to have a reduced iteration time.
And I really don't want to be responsible for making people redo it.

Re: MaFAB Relay Level(3 quarters, one more and i have a dollar?)
We currently have checkpoints set up until FrozenQuill's section, but nobody's done the Lua stuff for the rest of them.
We might be able to cut out a few - for instance, there doesn't need to be one between Zyglrox's section and mine. Though keeping the 1-Ups and mushrooms even where we cut out checkpoints would be good.
Other things that should be done:
-Might as well make axes invisible after setting up all the checkpoints. Then again, that can be done very easily after Horikawa's section in case she wants to use axes there; it'll be easier to work with if they're visible.
-The door in Mechdragon's section is accessible from the start, it should be set up to only appear after the lasers finish.
-Mechdragon's section doesn't use the music he picked for it, and should probably be changed back to that.
I can take care of Mechdragon's section, but I don't know enough to make the checkpoints work.
Anyways, midpoints aren't the main issue with KingTwelveSixteen's section (though they're definitely needed). The main problems, in my view, are that there aren't enough powerups and there are too many Rinkas. I tried adding a couple of additional powerups and I still thought it was too hard - in some parts of the room, particularly the water, if you wait for one wave of Rinkas to pass another wave will have spawned and you're almost right back where you started.

Re: MaFAB Relay Level(3 quarters, one more and i have a dollar?)
I believe the plan is to change the checkpoints to use Lua-only checkpoints when this is done. They're a feature that was added mid-way through this relay, so haven't been implemented here yet, but should free up the event counts somewhat, and mean that axes aren't actually necessary.Dragon Fogel wrote: -Might as well make axes invisible after setting up all the checkpoints. yeah, if your new method is up and working you can go ahead and implement that.Hoeloe wrote:I believe the plan is to change the checkpoints to use Lua-only checkpoints when this is done. also 3 things i wanted to do next(since this frees up events):
put mechdragons music back and remove a saw from kings section(and probably that fish too, i dont mind the rinkas in the slightest but those 2 things make the section force you to take a hit.
may also lower the water because swimming while rinkas fire at you is pretty much a guaranteed hit
implement a "Challenge mode" option; a special switch before the start of the stage that removes midpoints and halves powerup gain.
