The key is in the

first level

you played in Cogwheel Canyon.

Also you might want to fly

with the tornado

next time.

I... don't think that's how magnets and magnetism works, with all the metal everywhere in that stage.

That magnet level really reminded me of AUS, when you rode the conveyor belt with the magnet.

I'm really digging the boss theme in this game, I assume it's a remix of something that already exists like most of the other music in the game? Anyone know what it is?

I know it's the same boss theme as the first Toad Strikes Back, but I don't know where it's from.

Those three levels were pretty short but tough, though the one with magnets was the easiest of the lot. Also, I'm so grateful for that nonlethal pit in the beginning of Booster Breakthrough, otherwise I'd have a hard time adjusting to holding the throw button to boost my way through.

(Oh, and I decided to do the levels in reverse order compared to raocow because I wanted to save the boss battle for last that time around.)

Looking forward to seeing raocow get that switch palace key and working his way through there. I have a feeling the golden switch blocks will hold something really special.

Man, looking back, Cogwheel Canyon is such a great world. It has some of the most memorable levels in the entire game

next to Subcon.

It's a remix of the item minigame theme from Mario Party 2.

Lives systems have been obsolete ever since people stopped paying quarters to play and anyone who still has them in their games deserves a slap

I don't know what quarters are but I know they're a thing!

Not gonna lie, at one point I deliberately farmed about 40 lives just because I got tired of the pointless Game Overing.

The Gold Switch Palace is a good place if you want to stock up on some lives. You can collect a bunch of those P-switch coins there and spend them on the bonus chance roulette. The actual payoff of that will vary of course, but you might get several lives when you have lots of those coins.

And if you look around in the last room of the palace, there's a

blue mushroom and a 1-up

. Plus those switch blocks at the end will all give you Yoshis (the redundant power-ups can help you raise your star counter).

I kind of did that unintentionally, actually. It took me many tries to finish that switch palace, by which time I'd amassed about 90 chances at the slot machine.

Oh wow, the Drop-off has more going for it than I initially thought.
  • Whacka will appear more than once if you return here.
  • You can get another health-up even if are over 3 health. Normally the blue mushroom that increases your health beyond the limit will not spawn if you're already over the limit (edit: it applies for West Toadsville, but I tested with Snowfall Shaft and it doesn't apply there, I guess it's only for West Toadsville?)

Collecting a health-up when you have two full bars (6 health) gives you a longer-than-normal invincibility state.

  • If you whack Whacka enough times, eventually

the mole disappears and is replaced by the mystery eyes.

The thing with getting bumps is at the same time your health bar gets bigger and bigger and Toadette grows ever happier in the portrait,

Whacka is progressively getting worsening brain damage until he dies. Then Reckloo shows up, condemns your actions and tells you to throw yourself in the pit.

... I kinda want raocow to show it on camera. DO IT. KEEP WHACKING WHACKA. BECOME A MONSTER, FOR US.

I will represent Mr. Whacka in court and speak on his behalf.

Our grievancies are as follows:

"Everyone keeps hitting me on the head."
"They continue to hit me on the head."
"They won't stop hitting me on the head."
"Why do even little children come hit me on the head?"

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury this is clearly reckless endangerment on behalf of and Ms. Toadette represented by Mr. raocow and I will settle for no less. We cannot allow such blatant disregard for the law continue, this creature is on the endangered creature's list for god's sake!

Honestly, after the mess that was the Gold Switch Palace and getting the key to even visit it, I can forgive raocow for cracking Whacka's skull (even if once). Seriously, I lost so many lives and so much patience I honestly thought about hacking the game. Thankfully, that never came to pass.

Anyway, can't wait to see what Glum Valley is like.
