"Sonic Epoch features SatAM Sonic in a time travel adventure as he is blasted 10 years into the future; a dark future where Dr. Robotnik has essentially won, and the very few remaining Knothole Freedom Fighters are barely clinging to life. Sonic arrives to reinvigorate the world and perhaps still be able to fight back the evil Doctor and hopefully somehow get back to his own time.

Epoch existed in two editions on two platforms; originally for DOS (later Windows) and Gameboy Advance (not as an official product of course!) The DOS/Windows one was "cancelled" after having a good deal of it completed. The GBA version was a revival which attempted to reuse as much as it could from its previous incarnation and finish the job. While the GBA version is "finished", it was a rush job, more for the sake of filling the gap of the previous version's incomplete status, and did not completely honor all aspects of the original story. "

P.P.S. I love how the purple recolored Chrono Trigger grass on the overworld seems to just magically turn green at the edges of the cliffs. Sheer quality.

I was able to grow up with Super Mario Bros. on the NES, much like many kids of the late 80s - early 90s. I instantly fell in love with the whole platformer genre. I used to doodle imagined levels for Super Mario Bros. 3 ... my own World. It would be many years before hackers would actually provide the means to make custom levels, and until then I could only dream. (I finally achieved that dream for myself in 2014; see Super Mario Bros. 3Mix on the navigation menu!)

• Gold Sonic - I think this guy was prominent in the late 90s-early 00s Sonic fangaming scene
• PC0/Perfect Chaos Zero - Fangaming scene guy too, I think? Uploaded a shitton of ancient Sonic fangames to his site back in 2011 (which was later taken down due to Sepwich closing or w/e, but reuploaded by someone on Sonic Retro), I can link you to it if ya want (a lot of them are very bad)
• Dragon XVI (also known as Red XVI) - Fangaming scene guy, made a game called OmniKhaos, which he ended up disliking, and then made a duology of Sonic fangames called Thirdscape 1&2 as a response to people liking OmniKhaos. • Kiddo (Cabbusses) - Contributed a shitton to the Satellaview and SEGA Pico preservation scenes. Seems like a p. cool guy. Has a lot of vids of Sonic fangames uploaded to his YT channel (also obscure games and some game vids from Nico Nico Douga).
• Kulock the Moogle - Ran a Sonic fan site called the Moogle Cavern (offline since 2008). Even though the name is an FF reference, it was originally supposed to be a Slayers fan site with a small Sonic section but??????? Also kinda helped kick off the "hoax" fad in the early-to-mid-00s Sonic fanbase. By hoaxes they mean just do dumb shit with sprites, game screencaps and Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro/whatev. It's basically the same thing as the "Blooper Reel" but with actual games, instead of... this. Also trolled the entire fangaming scene back in 2001 with a fangame called Sonic Adventure Gaiden.

However, what many consider a major failing point on either the original or later GBA Epoch is the fact it just doesn't play like a Sonic game. Really it doesn't play much better than any fairly generic tile-based platformer. (And at many times is worse, being clunky and difficult.) I love to imagine having Sonic gameplay inspired by the old Sega Genesis/Megadrive games mixed with elements from the show (i.e. fast paced action, SatAM style!), and also have Sally do her own show-inspired gameplay that's quite a bit different (probably more of a puzzle-solving angle or something.) I'm personally hoping for an opportunity one day to revisit Epoch and "get it done right", but I can't commit to that today. If I ever find myself committed to it again, the Internet will know.
