As for the actual event, it's truly marvelous that this has been done.

Talk has been flying about, people are especially wondering if Atari can get in trouble for this, be it from general litter or even tax avoidance.

As WELL, the hot topic is the AVGN's movie, which is on this very topic! There was a film crew at the dig site, but it's believed to be from Microsoft, not the AVGN. Whether this dig throws a wrench into the AVGN Movie's story is to be seen, so far as I know.

The guy who made E.T. had made some fantastic stuff for Atari before, he was given only 5 weeks to make this atrocity.

As for what I think, I'm glad this legend turned out to be true. Now this can be one of those things that will be featured in textbooks for Video Game History.
Seriously though, I prefer this outcome to the alternative: A hoaky myth by those video game nerds... I feel this legitimatizes us somehow.
