S.P.L.U.C.E. - What's that random reference?!

this is the place where lps are being talked about. it's important to talk about games being played on the internet.

The unfortunate thing with these wraparound levels is that the game won't allow a sprite to partially enter a boundary, so you instead just warp from one boundary to the other. That might have been why you died the first time. Otherwise, these levels are really cool and have potential for interesting level designs. I liked them since The Mario.

Yeah, the wraparound is pretty bad. It warps you instead of being a true wraparound, so you'll frequently get killed by enemies at the border.

Bird Jesus also used to take more hits before the most recent update. It's a really terrible boss.

Cats love climbing trees. They just hate getting down although I suspect it's mainly because they want the attention they get when they're stuck. It would be just like them.

I'm not sure a true wraparound is actually possible on the SMW engine. This one is better than most though because it doesn't affect only Mario like most of them do.

The Phantos replacement is Spiritomb, a Gen 4 Pokemon.

To be honest, I was expecting Gengar to be the big boo replacement: sure wasn't expecting that.

Gengar or at least Haunter would have made more sense but the giant Ghastly was kinda hilarious.

Also I thought the Phanto was actually the ghost from Lavender town in RBY but it seems I didn't remember how it looked. Not familiar with this Spiritomb thing either though.

Hey, a fun-looking Luigi level! I love Weegee.

And am I the only one who thought the Big Boo replacement looked like Jerkhief and B-Manajerk from Sonichu?

Eh... I don't really get the Luigi levels. That one wasn't bad but they just seem kinda silly.
I thought the key gimmick in the Ghost House was a really nice idea! I'm surprised I've never seen something like that before. Shame about the Big Boo though, I was hoping it'd be Haunter or Gengar instead of a really fat Gastly.

It reminded me of those VIP levels where goal spheres are dotted all over the place and you have to actively avoid them to keep Boon/Mario from waltzing right off into a pit, except with 100% less instadeath (though having to restart the level could be considered a form of death).

I remember seeing another level in another hack that may or may not have been VIP-related where the whole level is dotted with fake keyholes and you have to find the correct one. I'm thinking Mario Gives Up, but I'm probably wrong.

It kinda bugs me how Drilbur wasn't the Monty Mole replacement. Would've also freed up Trapinch for the obvious muncher role.

Mario Gives Up 2, actually, so you were close. I only remember this because MGU2 had those weird "alternate reality game"-esque YouTube videos showing off secrets, and one of them was showing the correct keyhole in that stage. Though raocow had already brute-forced it long before he "unlocked" that video, so it was rather meaningless. :P

I... secretly hope that Bottomless Abyss is a sign of things to come in the endgame (spooky creepy blackness and weirdness, all that good stuff), because that kind of thing is like... something I enjoy for some reason.

Something I forgot to mention way back near the start is that I didn't even know Ally Switch (the title of episode 4) was even a move. It seems hilariously situational.

So raocow, since there seems to be one Homestuck level per world, are you going to find the 4th one on your own?

I expected, when this started, to have either Trapinch or Mawile as Muncher replacement.I mean the black thing on the back of its head definitely resembles a muncher.

Actually this time the reference was vaguely kind of somewhat justified by how the last star world ended (I also find it funny that raocow mentioned capricorns in this context without having a clue). And Explore and Showtime are always nice songs. What's the Wind and Shade music from, by the way?

Heh, a whole Homestuck world, that didn't seem too bad.

Glad you liked the boss music, it's a classic within the fanbase. Lot's of good music in Homestuck.

It's called Showtime (Original Mix), 3rd one down on the list:

This episode was like a pigeon. Four levels with bosses that are references and a lot of raocow deaths.

That's what pigeons are like, right? :P
