I'm not sure how it's possible to have self-control sufficient to finish such a level but insufficient enough not to trust yourself with a hot key.
dont wanna jihad no more
Re: S.P.L.U.C.E. - Who's that Pokemon?! --- It's Mario!
This. I have never been more legitimately angry at raocow than I have been during this hack, because he is fundamentally not understanding how it's supposed to be played.yogui wrote:You were not supposed to play it completely, just waste two or three lives on it, laugh and move to the real levels.
Complaining that that level is bad is like stabbing yourself through the hand with a steak knife and then saying "meat is murder."

Just stop telling him where those levels are. He's not finding them on his own, is he?

Re: S.P.L.U.C.E. - Who's that Pokemon?! --- It's Mario!
If I remember correctly, raocow stopped getting the Pokeballs, right? So he wouldn't have 100% anyway, unless someone sends him a save.

That level is a pretty good, albeit extremely exaggerated, illustration of why earthquakes are pretty much the worst gimmick.
Who makes a level for the purpose of the player not beating it, though? That's just dumb. Almost as dumb as being legitimately angry at a guy playing games for the internet for actually trying to beat a level.Eathanu wrote:This. "It's super great except when it isn't." -raocow
That describes this game pretty well
Anyway, that level technically accomplished it's goal of being terrible?? I guess. 8^y
i feel like the creator was all like "lets make some mspa levels. yeah theres a quick sprite edit for a homestuck boss, thats sweet. okay, uh... uh... eh, lets just make sbahj its easier"

But you gotta see everything a game has to offer, especially in a lets play!Eathanu wrote:This. it's funny because sweet bro and hella jeff and homestuck are both part of the same thing so they have the same source technicallyNathan the Talkmaus wrote:Sweet Bro and Hella Jeff level

Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

Welp, today's video just downgraded this whole hack just by it's inclusion.
I mean yeah, "haha, it's a joke" but that really does not excuse shitty level design.

Re: S.P.L.U.C.E. - Who's that Pokemon?! --- It's Mario!
Yeah, you are probably right. Maybe it was just that I played the star world in one go without save states. After I beat the first level, I didn't feel anything. No relief, no accomplishment, nothing. Only pain...and darkness...The Doctor wrote:Star World 3 will be a thing, but at least those levels are well designed. I actually had fun with Star World 3. Nothing in this game is worse than today's level.Yikes wrote:YCZ hates you, it's the only logical explanation. It only gets worse from now on. Star world 3 will be...a thing.
Maybe I should have just paused for an hour or something because after watching a Lets Play of the 4th level of the star world, it looked really well made. I was just burnt out or something. It was a good level.
Also, thanks for your advice in the 1st star world 3 level. It worked :D

Pelipper, a Gen 3 Pokemon.
Part of me for some reason just wants to see Charmeleon evolve after it fell in the lava.
It's rather strange that lore-wise and gameplay-wise are conflicting with each other, with that Pokemon having a double weakness to electric attacks, but would break "3-3 Balsa Bridge" if it was implemented...

That pikachu thing at the end seemed like a clever use of lines.

Balsa is a tree, by the way.
Re: S.P.L.U.C.E. - Who's that Pokemon?! --- It's Mario!
I find the original 151 Pokemon to be grossly overrated in the rose-tinted glasses kind of way. Not that I don't have a lot of favorites in the bunch and like more than half of their designs, but every generation has its fair share of meh Pokemon and just because a newer Pokemon came into existance after the first generation doesn't automatically make it bad.
The games have gotten more complex as time has gone on, which is a major reason series veterans keep coming back for more, but the genius is that it's stayed so close to the original formula that anyone can pick it up and play, even if they haven't touched Pokemon in fifteen years or if they're an illiterate preschooler. It's part of the beauty of it all.

See, Balsa Bridge was an example of a level that was really neat. It took the boss bass mechanic we know so well and just took it to its logical conclusion, without making it too easy or too hard. This hack can do really well when it's not bogged down with gimmicks and/or references.

Today's gimmick level was a well-made gimmick level.

Was there a Suwako Blargg in a previous raocow thing? I can't remember...

See this is what happens when you don't make terrible things to try to be funny! The levels today were actually pretty good. I liked the boss bass = Pelliper thing they had going on.

I really liked today's batch of levels.
I'm just repeating what other people have said so far, but this game does some really good work when it isn't trying to use overly finneky gimmicks.
Tomorrow's going to be lovely for sure. '3'

The candy-corn thing is Snorunt, a Gen 3 Pokemon, the ice cream eeries are Vanillite, a Gen 5 Pokemon, and the spider is Ariados, a Gen 2 Pokemon.
Some good levels in today's video. Too bad the bonus stuff is going to get in the way.
