Pitching a game idea

If you'd like to pitch an idea for a game, please give the name/genre and platform. For the game dev process, suggest how much focus should be put into each of the three stages. For Stage one we have Engine/Gameplay/Story+Quests, for stage 2 we have Dialouges/Level Design/Artificial Intellegance, and for stage 3 we have Sound/Graphic/World Design. When we have engines available, please select an engine as well. This will be rocky to start with, but I am sure it'll smooth out as time goes on.

I'll provide an example of what a submission for a game might look like.

Name: Planet Argos
Genre: RPG
Topic: Space
Engine: X
Stage 1
++ Engine
-Gameplay
+++Story/Quest
Stage 2
+Dialouges
-Level Design
++AI
Stage 3
+Sound
--World Design
+++Graphic

---(none) --(Almost no focus) -(non focused) +(minimal focus) ++ (Focused) +++ (Max)
Suggesting Research
If you'd like to suggest something to research, keep in mind that it costs money and time to do. Remember, your actions determine the success of the Talkhaus Revolution. Simply suggest what to research after some thought and submit your ideas. This also applies to making new game engines, and other bonuses later in the game that I won't reveal to you yet :P

No alex, that's what the kids call it when they film themselves screaming and making stupid faces. This sounds like an entirely new concept.

Except I don't have the recording set up to do that. A let's play entails some form of commentary, and I can't provide that sadly. In anycase, no one answered my question if they'd be interested in this

Game Dev Tycoon is not my favorite and I have no love for it at all.

That being said: yes, I am interested.

e: keep in mind that screenshot LPing takes a serious amount of time and dedication. You have to stick with it.
I would not suggest something that I have no intention to finish. I have it planned to post 2 games a day, one in the morning, and one at night. With an in between session for researching and such. I would run this either until we go bankrupt, or, until the 35 year game period ends. It is averaged that the average games made in GDT is somewhere around 70, so this screenshot LP would likely last for a little over a month. The only circumstance in which I would not post updates would be for some extraordinary occasion, which, you would receive prior notice. I'll leave this topic idea open for a few days and decide what to do based off the majority, sound good?

And we are off, I've chosen Blast from the Past LLC as the company name. The character name is Talkhaus. We start off the game with the prospect of making a new game.

What should the game be called? Which genre/topic combination do we want to start with? Which platform? the first game gets made tonight ;)

All available topics/genres/platforms will be available for viewing in the OP. This also includes possible things to research and the like.

Thanks for picking G64. I was thinking about it while making the suggestion, but I didn't actually write it down for some reason.

MAN WHAT IS WITH ALL OF THESE SHIT RESEARCH TOPICS

Research Detective. Gotta open up more topics.
I'll start researching around lunch time, (few hours from now) so to give peeps some time if they want to participate. And I know what you mean by the topics. They can be a huge pain to work with :evil: have you any qualms with how I've set this up by the way?

alex2 wrote:Perhaps write the genres and topics and etc out instead of showing them in a picture. Talkhaus is much too small to handle images that large, and opening every one in a new tab is a bit tedious.

This also technically belongs in Let's Play. I don't know if it'll get more exposure here or there, but it is an LP.
Yes, I realize that that solution would be optimal, I'll make revisions shortly. And yes, it should be in the LP section, I got a notification about it and it should be promptly moved. It is my fault for not starting this in the LP section :?

This'll be in a stall until we get more ideas, however, if we were to go a week without more ideas I'm afraid I'll have to drop this project

Here's my attempt at contributing to this thread.
I have never played Game Dev Tycoon so make of that what you will.
Name: Zero Cross
Genre: Action
Topic: Sci-Fi
Stage 1
+ Engine
+++ Gameplay
- Story/Quest
Stage 2
- Dialouges [sic]
+ Level Design
++ AI
Stage 3

- World Design
++ Graphic

PC, since development costs are cheaper.
I don't know if we'll get the ability to make shoot 'em ups (like R-Type, Thunder Force, 2hu, Twinbee...) later on or if they fall into action so yeah
