Ideas for dumb celebratory stuff to do (or not)

Post by TheVulpineHero1 »

So, we got the talkhaus back. That's good! We lost an assload of data. That's bad. Seems to me that now would be a nice time for some informal contests or something to start filling in that void and get the ball rolling again after the downtime. So, let's have some ideas. Or be lazy and don't. Whatever. Here's mine since I started the thread.

http://roll20.net/

We probably have some crazy people into tabletop games, right? Those people would probably be cool to play them over the internet, right? Why not organise a talkhaus tabletop game campaign? Agree a system, play a game, write it up like a bamf, achieve profit. Maybe have the admins use their crazy powers -- have a thread that's locked to the players, where the folks of talkhaus can collectively make suggestions to the GM and/or add bits and pieces to the campaign. Maybe a somewhat effort intensive idea, but could have great results. Maybe have a Demo-themed campaign or something.

Other ideas on a similar principle: online chess tournament? I know there are play-by-post chess forums out there. Ditto most other board games; I know there are also chatrooms out there to play in real time. Might be worth looking into.

Anybody else got any dumb ideas to add to the heap?

I like the idea of this, too.

Wow, that does actually look super cool.

Also, we could set up a Cards Against Humanity thing (via http://pyz.socialgamer.net/game.jsp).

I really like the idea of a chess tournament.

Cup is totally going to kick everybody's butt though if he joins

As for locking threads and whatnot and keeping player specific we could just have two threads for the tabletop game. One "Players here" and another "Talk about the game here"

A chess tourney would be pretty rad! Cup suggested lichess.org for doing matches on IRC, which seems pretty good.

I would not be against the chess tournament, but I wonder if I'll embarrass myself or not. Oh well, I guess we'll find out if you do that.

Here's another proponent of the chess tournament. And we can definitely do cool admin stuff like that.

I'll join but my strategy is basically move pieces around and hope for the best.

This is a valid enough strategy with a bit of luck. I haven't played in years but back in high school I tied for first in a tournament never thinking more than a few turns ahead or with a general strategy of "let's get this piece over here-ish". (And that tie was ten rounds in a row and the tournament was between ~30 people.)

I doubt I'd join a tournament here though. I haven't played a full game in years unless you count teaching my little brother how to play in 2009.

Sounds pretty cool!

I used to be slightly competent in chess. Never learned all o’ the names for the various strategies (always thought the whole naming business was kinda dumb), but I remember being taught how to win in four moves. If only I could remember the sequence.

I’ve always wanted to play Cards Against Humanity. And the other games seem pretty interesting as well. So hey, once you decide on a game and get this ball rolling, maybe I’ll join.
(what sound does the mind make?)

Chess is rolling viewtopic.php?f=12&t=14111

It should be mentioned that Vulpine has clarified on IRC that he's simply putting forward ideas, he wants others to actually organize everything. So if you see something you want to host, grab it and host it.

As I did, pretty much.

All these suggestions sound like a lot of fun, I'd be up for any of them really depending on the time.

I've also never played Chess with time before, I've always liked taking my time during my turn, but it didn't really matter as I'd lose most of the time. :P I guess there's always room to learn something new.

I also was sorta planning this silly game like thing I was setting up that I was going to post in the forum games section so I guess you could sort of count that.

I was thinking about it but I would probably have trouble even finding time to properly give it my attention with how all over the place my schedule currently is.

I suppose if you're mentioning Go, Shogi might be an option too. I've always wanted to learn the latter, and to play the first.

If people wanted to we could play this de-make of TF2 that I discovered recently as a short-lived tournament or just as an event.

I haven't played much, but it was fun from what I've played.

Given how popular Mafia threads seem to be, why not play its video game equivalent in the form of The Ship or Trouble in Terrorist Town?

I'd totally host a Go tournament after the chess one is over.
The basics are less complicated than chess and we don't need that many players to rack up a good competition, either.

Oh, also: Anyone wanting to play Cards Against Humanity is gladly invited to join Skypehaus - we play a few rounds of it at least once or twice every week.
