Link's Quest for the Hookshot 2: Quest

Post by Moosh »

So a month ago some of you may remember Franky linked to a particular video I made of a bonus boss in a Zelda Classic quest (think like SMBX but with Zelda) I was working on. I never really got involved in that thread because I had nothing to contribute besides "Oh hey it's a thing I made" but then suddenly I went on a designing spree and finished it. I just released the quest yesterday and I figured I might as well make a topic about it here as well for anyone who might actually care.

So where do I begin? It's a long story, but back in 2010 I made my first quest, Link's Quest for the Hookshot. It was pretty terrible and inside jokey. Then from 2012-2013 I've been working on and off on this quest which is a sequel to that one. It's pretty terrible and inside jokey. Oh hey, that wasn't a long story at all! I guess you got tricked.

So now that I'm done rambling, here are the actual download links for the stuff you need to play it:

You can download the quest here.

You can find the engine, Zelda Classic 2.5, here.

Here's a tutorial on how to load custom quests in ZC.

And since I'm guessing you guys will want some screenshots before you download a game from a guy on the internet, here are some screenshots:
Image
Story continuity!? That sure is a thing!

Image
References!? those exist!

Image
Puzzles in a Zelda game!? That's crazy talk!

Image
Hilariously badly timed screenshots of custom bosses! Oh man!

Image
An old man who gives you hints!? That's never happened in a video game before!

Image
Dungeon gimmicks!? Those are highly improbable!
So I hope at least somebody here will play this and find it enjoyable, but if you don't that's cool too. Making games is more a learning experience for me than anything, so if this doesn't catch anybody's interest that's just as informative as if it does.

Looks great, I'd like to see more feedback on this here and possibly someone could try and Lp it! I know we get quite a few Lpers who view this forum! :D

Zelda classic is really not that hard to use and I will help anyone here with questions on how to use it. ;)

There should totally be an AZCT, we should just have a collaboration game in every engine imaginable.

A Sonic Worlds Thing
A Danmakufu Thing
An RPG Maker Thing/An OHRRPGCE Thing
A Fighter Maker Thing/A MUGEN Thing
i'd rather we just take this one step at a time, okay?
we should make a danmakufu game where the main characters are chen, orin and shou, with all different routes and bosses a la Concealed the Conclusion, and all the bosses are fictional characters who happen to be felines or catgirls/catboys
final boss is kyubey, extra boss is doraemon, phantasm boss is reimu with cat ears
