I was playing world A-3, consisting of running along the clouds from jumping Cheep Cheeps. As I approach the flag pole, I noticed the flag wasn't there! I latched onto the pole halfway up, Mario did nothing for a whole second, and then he just jumped of and went into the castle, he didn't slide down or receive any points.
I just find it funny, thinking what was going on inside his head:
Mario thinking: Ugh, what do I do now?
Shigero behind the P.A System: MARIO. GET OFF THE FLAG POLE!
Mario: Oh, right...
Shigero: Who forgot to hang the flag! Where are the flag raisers!
Flag raiser: Hey man, did you see all those cheep cheeps flying in the air. It was too dangerous!
Shigero: I can understand a Koopa not showing up for work, but the !#&@ flag missing? This is unforgivable!

I would love to see footage of this, that would be a fantastic sight :D

Well, this was on my 3DS, so that is pretty much not going to happen. I think the flag never spawned becuase there were too many Cheep-Cheeps in the air, plus the Red Para-Troopa that is supossed to be there.

Its all good :)
I looked it up on youtube and found other people had spawning issues too, never with the flag itself but with the springboard usually. Most of them got stuck inside the flagpole.

Yeah, had to deal with disappearing springboards as well.
One in C-3, thanks to a Lakitu. Not as big as a problem since I like having an excuse to kill him. But in D-2, there is a place where I can spawn a vine, and then use a Red Para-Troopa to jump to it. If I mess that up, I'm screwed because a springboard on the next screen will not spawn, and I need it.
Oh well.
Oh well.
