Kirby's Dream Land 3
Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
I like that the level with the Gourmet Race music is also the level with the slowdown sand
also raocow, that background wasn't that great.

"Done and dusted, Kirby."
This was an awesome set of vids. I don't think the second one went too fast at all. I like "frenetic raocow".

Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
raocow should consider doing Kirby 64, its a sequel to this one and i bet it would be a lot of fun with all the ability combining :D

Sorry bout that.

Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
After listening to a bassoon of almost identical arrangements, Dream Land 3 does an excellent job making the piece sound unique. My ear isn't great so I wouldn't have guessed the key but, in contrast to C minor, F minor seems to show up pretty infrequently, so that probably plays a big part in giving this arrangement some sparkles of individuality.Kilgamayan wrote:Something about the shift from C Minor to F Minor gives it extra appeal.
Anyway, I agree Kilga. As a key, F minor is all sorts awesome and C minor is lame (it's obvious that was the point you were really trying to make).

Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
So some other LPers have taken away one of my favorite parts of raocow :( (yes, I am one of those douchebags who likes LP singing, thank you)....
Wow, Fire Kirby is kind of a game breaker in this. Also, being with Chu Chu makes Kirby so happy :D!
Next up, the character who would later become Tuff in the anime!

Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
Don't worry, there's some things that still hurt fire kirby :p.
Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
The last round on that mini-game looked pretty brutal. Good work on only losing once.

Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
If it helped, I never got the last round in this bonus round. (from this video. never played the game)

Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
Eh. That's the advantage of having two players on this game. You get to take two guesses instead of just the one.
Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
Here's a question which I'm curious about how do different key signatures affect people who don't have perfect pitch? I have it so hearing that version of Gourmet Race, I immediately realized the key change gave it a bit more "oomph".Kilgamayan wrote:I always liked the KDL3 version of Gourmet Race the most. Something about the shift from C Minor (as Gourmet Race is normally played) to F Minor (as KDL3 does it) gives it extra appeal.
Here's an experiment someone should do. Gather 200 people who know the Superstar version of Gourmet Race, but don't know the KDL3 one. Have 100 listen to the KDL3 version, and the other 100 listen to the KDL3 version transposed a fourth down (ie back to C). Would the opinions change between the two groups?
Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
Yaaay no more soundtest. I always wondered why you kept doing it even though it could take upwards of 30 seconds on a place where every second counts.
Also I like my "Hey there everybody, this is raocow"s quick and to the point.
Also makes opening several videos at the same time and having them all go off at once more interesting.
Also man Burning got a nerf in 3. It lasts way longer in NiDL and SS and I think 64
edit: The fake kirby is called batamon, I think.

Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
Today's video makes me hope you end this LP with a successful attempt at the Minigame Bonus Game you unlock at 100% (all 5 minigames in a row) - and a fantastic montage of all the failures that came before it.
The best Minor is probably D or G. Slight lean toward D despite corresponding to F Major which I find boring as hell.
Also, I don't have perfect pitch. I figured shit out about Gourmet Race by plunking away on our keyboard. >_>
EDIT: I do have pretty good relative pitch, though, and a pretty good grasp of music theory, so that helped narrow it down.
As someone that plays handbells, I see them both at about the same frequency, so as keys I don't have a bias toward either. Maybe a tiny preference toward F Minor, but I considered it balanced out by preferring Eb Major to Ab Major. >_>Cup wrote:Anyway, I agree Kilga. I think the extra "oomph" simply comes from hearing something different. We've been oversaturated with C Minor Gourmet Race - Crystal Shards, Smash 64 and Smash Melee all used C Minor in addition to Super Star. It's possible that people simply find F Minor more interesting that C Minor (and, in fairness, C#/Db is a pretty awesome tone), but I think it's more likely that it was just something different.RobinLSL wrote:Here's a question which I'm curious about how do different key signatures affect people who don't have perfect pitch? Uhmm I actually second your decision right there in stopping the sound test at the intro (ah don't hate me!) its just that.. if everybody else are also doing it and copying raocow's style, there's this feeling it kinda stops being special and unique.
I don't know but, well it happens to me that (specially with music or a song), I might like something very very much but if later on I see everybody else starts liking it too and showing off and stuff because is the new "trend" or "fashion", I just don't like it anymore. I'd rather go for the things that are unpopular and not very well-known.

No, I agree. I'm just saddened that it had to come to an end is all.frickinawesum wrote:Uhmm I actually second your decision right there in stopping the sound test at the intro (ah don't hate me!) its just that.. if everybody else are also doing it and copying raocow's style, there's this feeling it kinda stops being special and unique.

Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
Save stating the maze? For shame.
Just for future reference, most weapons that are rapid-fire short range projectiles can be aimed to a degree. Most can be aimed up, while some can also be aimed down and sometimes stretched out further forward. Ice/Pitch gets some really good range if you hold Forward, for example.

Maaaan, so much cuteness today! My spleen is going to explode or something
Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
Rick's ice attack is the single greatest thing I've seen in this game so far.
Also, who's the boss of this area?

Pon and Con. They're basically Nruff and Nelly except there are two of them.
Also, predicting now that the final level in Sand Canyon will take two videos, because MAN is that fucker long.

tha maze actually looked like a super closeup of underwater bread
Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
Do the parts carry over between attempts? Because if not, then it's definitely the longest stage in the game.Kilgamayan wrote:Also, predicting now that the final level in Sand Canyon will take two videos, because MAN is that fucker long.
Re: Kirby's Dream Land 3
I imagine that the very last part of the level was designed with Broom+Nago in mind, as a reward.
Because seriously.

Remember back when raocow was commenting on the "suggestiveness" of the way Nago holds Kirby in the earlier videos?
Well, he's not the only one who noticed.
