Kefit Plays Difficult Games

Post by Kefit »

Hey there. I'm a long time raocow LP follower and I've been poking my head around random talkhaus things since I assisted in the creation of the Asakura P English patch (now being used by Mindez in his amusing blind LP). I love difficult, precision based video games, I love talking about difficult, precision based video games, and quite honestly I enjoy showing off in difficult, precision based video games. The end result is that sometimes I defeat my innate laziness and produce videos of said difficult games. I've been on a productive swing lately, so I figured I'd share my videos here.

Current Let's Play:
VVVVVV No Death Mode
Less of a Let's Play and more of a challenge video where I provide rambling post commentary. Still, I hope it's entertaining. I also attempt to explain what makes VVVVVV a good and difficult game, and how the abundance of save points actively works against the impact of the level design. Of course, there's mumbling about individual screens and challenges in the game as well. If you're more into live commentary then RobinLSL's got you covered for the same challenge here.

Finished Let's Plays:
I Wanna Be The Barrage
So what happens when you combine I Wanna Be The Guy with Touhou? Why, you get an intriguing and surprisingly well playing danmaku platforming game unlike anything else I've ever played. That is, when the creator feels inspired enough to create decent levels. This game has some wonky balance issues both in terms of difficulty and overall design, but the gameplay is simply irresistible for a weirdo like me. Oh, and it gets hellishly difficult in the later stages, to the degree that the creator felt the need to insert a message that basically tells you to give up and stop playing the game. Join me as I ignore him and wager my soul in a battle of video game will.

Asakura P
A brilliant yet tragically obscure puzzle/action/platformer from the brilliant yet tragically obscure Japanese game maker Somiso. This game combines fiendish puzzles, a simple yet inspired magic system, clever manipulative level design, and ball breaking difficulty to produce hours of fun for any precision based platforming fan. It's easily one of my favorite video games off all time despite its humble background. This is a live, non-blind playthrough of the game, and I'm joined by Moogy (translator and main producer of the English patch) for commentary. Some may be offended or put off by the coarse nature of some of the commentary, and I apologize in advance if this occurs.

Perfect Cherry Blossom Lunatic No Bombs 1cc
Imperishable Night Lunatic No Bombs 1cc
Mountain of Faith Lunatic No Bombs 1cc
I don't think that the Touhou games need any introduction. I played these games way too god damn much up until a couple of years ago, and runs like these are the fruits of my labor. Informative commentary for these runs is provided via Youtube annotations, since I find that voice commentary doesn't suit Touhou very well for non-live playthroughs. I still need to add some finishing touches to the MoF videos, perhaps I'll be inspired enough during this productive streak to get around to that.

Spelunky Challenge Runs
A highly addictive and innovative roguelike platformer notorious for its difficulty. Thing is, it's not actually that hard once you put in the time and learn the mechanics in great depth. Good thing I've got silly challenge runs to fix that! The regular Spelunky run has informative annotation commentary, so check that one out if you're into that kind of thing.

If you poke around my Youtube channel you'll also find some old Let's Plays of NES and SNES games I created with Moogy a long time ago. These were very casual, downright crude affairs, but feel free to watch them if the commentary style clicks with you.

Anyway, I've got at least one more project in the works after I finish up I Wanna Be the Barrage, so stay tuned for more!

Letty is the most bizarre choice for a "final boss" in any game ever. Following suit Yamame will clearly be last fight of the omake portion.

The final bosses of the IWBTB Extra stage are a bit more unorthodox than that. Speaking of the Extra stage, the first video for it is now up!

Also, Cup pointed out to me that the download link for IWBTB on the creator's site doesn't work. I've added a working download link the video descriptions, just in case you were dying to check it out yourself.

Wow, you are seriously amazing at video games!

Really enjoying your IWBTB stuff. I like that instead of just yelling about how hard everything is, you explain exactly why it's so impossible :)

Checked out some of your Touhou videos too and those were equally amazing!

I Wanna Be The Barrage is now finished! Check out the nearly impossible Taiko Drum and the extemely intimidating final boss!

There's still a bit more to come in this LP in the form of the IWBTB2 demo, but that will take a couple of days to get ready.

Work's been kicking my ass, but I finally found time to finish putting together my VVVVVV No Death Mode video. Hopefully the commentary is coherent and intelligible. Enjoy!
