Unnamed Mario Hack

Post by akacesfan »

Alright, so I've decided to start working on a new hack. I don't have a name for it yet, but it's a chocolate hack that is focused on fun and level design. Don't expect a ton of fancy gimmicks, just fun level design. I might as well show off the four videos I have right now.

1-1 Peaceful Plains

This level has undergone a lot of revision since the original video, but the level is still very close to the one seen in the video. Since it's the first level, it's not super difficult.

1-2 Copper Cavern

This level is the first cave level in the hack, and it introduces pretty much all of the more common cave enemies as well as the blue P-Switch (those get a more formal introduction later). It's a pretty fun level, honestly.

1-3 Athletic Antics

This one's a simple athletic level that introduces the falling brown platforms on a chain (I don't know what they're called), as well as some other basic platforms found in sky levels. It also has a secret exit as well.

Yellow Switch

This switch palace takes advantage of an underused sprite, the coin game cloud! If you can collect all of the coins it throws, you earn a 1-up. This level has undergone some minor revisions since this video came up. By the way, ignore the crappy message boxes. I was using an older version of snes9x and the game glitched out for some reason. It worked fine on other emulators, so I'm just blaming it on snes9x.

I'm not a super-amazing-level-design-knowledge kind of guy, but I really like what I see here! It seems fairly simple and fun.
