Re: Donkey Kong 64 - Cranky's Moonshine
This is kind of why I feared this game being played to a certain degree. It's going to be collection hell.
Anyway, here's some music, appropriate for today
Re: Donkey Kong 64 - Cranky's Moonshine
Some more minor controls stuff, this time with guns:
-You can press Z and then tap C-Left twice to quickly pull out your gun and immediately go to first person mode. You can then also press Z and then tap C-Left twice again while in first-person mode to put your gun away and immediately get out of first person.
-You can also press Z + C-Left while in first person to pull out the gun cursor without having to leave first person.
As for vine-swinging, they're a bit finicky, but I recall that you can pretty much just mash A on them to always be jumping to the next one. It's less about jumping when you're at full extension, and more about jumping as the vine is swinging towards where you want to be going.

Re: Donkey Kong 64 - Cranky's Moonshine
For the record, I don't remember the aiming being so finicky when I played the game. I think, much like the really fast text speed, this is a result of the lag of the original hardware no longer being present. It's kind of amazing how much it changes the game.

Re: Donkey Kong 64 - Cranky's Moonshine
I think the reason might actually due to a difference in Analog Stick Sensitivity and Deadzone between the controller raocow's using and the original N64 controller. I know when I was reading up on Sonic Adventure emulation, it was noted more than a few times that controls in DC games might seem different in an emulator compared to real hardware simply to the sensitivity and deadzone of the analog stick on the original DC controller.
Just guessing though, I've never actually played DK64 ever, so I have no frame of reference; I just know there's an option in the emulator for setting deadzone and sensitivity.
Re: Donkey Kong 64 - Cranky's Moonshine
I'm not sure if any pictures of the other Kongs placeholder weapons have surfaced, though.

This is gonna be a looooong LP, ain't it?
As someone who got stuck at 99% thanks to a specific minigame that can rot in hell,
I'm curious how this game's gonna unfold for raocow.

Given that this is the very thing that stopped me from getting 100%, I'm both glad and disappointed.
Uh...Do I just sign here? What do you mean it should be obvious? There are people in this world...well...a whole lot of people that can't follow basic instructions!

That last K. Rool cutscene felt very reminiscent of some of the Panther King cutscenes from Conker's Bad Fur Day.

When I was a kid, I used to think that Snide was wearing a snazzy blue outfit with a necktie, but it turns out that he's actually wearing a blue work jumpsuit and the "tie" is just his fur. Oops. And for the longest time, I thought that the pins on top of the orange grenades were eyes. I guess I had too much Banjo-Kazooie on the mind.
I always had a hard time figuring out exactly where the Banana Balloons were located in space. Maybe it was poor depth perception on my part, or I was thrown off because their graphics look flat and don't seem to cast any shadows. I remember wasting a lot of ammo trying to shoot them down because I would frequently misjudge their distance.

There's also the part where you can hold Z to slow your aiming speed down.SAJewers wrote: ↑3 years agoI think the reason might actually due to a difference in Analog Stick Sensitivity and Deadzone between the controller raocow's using and the original N64 controller. That works on the text speed as well. Both of those are at pretty much the speed I remember them.
Re: Donkey Kong 64 - Cranky's Moonshine
Maybe I've just spent too much time on the internet, but is anybody else like, getting weird fetish-y vibes from a bunch of stuff in this game? Not going into specifics to keep this post PG, but I'm like re-evaluating stuff that I remember from this game as a kid.

It's not just you, their hitbox is awful, their movement erratic, and depth perception is barely possible even for someone experienced in 3D games.PSI Ninja wrote: ↑3 years ago When I was a kid, I used to think that Snide was wearing a snazzy blue outfit with a necktie, but it turns out that he's actually wearing a blue work jumpsuit and the "tie" is just his fur. I hope you don't mind if I edited the title of the latest video, I just changed it so as to include the medal and I wanted to make sure it was reflected in the op. sorry if this is rude :(

I’m betting that my game did crash a’least once & I just forgot then.Nimono wrote: ↑3 years ago I speak from experience. I played it the same way I played any other WiiU VC game: never resetting. I grabbed the Banana for Chunky that's on the spinny crusher thing in the big tall factory room, and then the game shortly crashed, and I realized what was up. Resetting will fix it, but you can't go without resets on the VC version or it eventually crashes!
This playthru has made me better appreciate the way “Jungle Japes” was designed. It does a good job o’ gradually increasing the scope o’ things you can do ( mainly by keeping the gates closed before unlocking Diddy to keep the player from getting distracted from the main goal ) & does a good job o’ ’splaining what there is to do next.

Re: Donkey Kong 64 - Cranky's Moonshine
as we can see today, the hitboxes on the shootable switches are also garbage
(there will be more examples)
I used to get really lost in this level. I've gotten way better at navigating videogames, thankfully. It's not really that complicated, but the cave system definitely threw me for a loop.

Wow thatxfix wrote: ↑3 years agoFor context to raocow, this is about a bug in Donkey Kong 64 that makes 101% completion impossible if you do certain thing wrong. It involves certain something in endgame. I don't think the description in spoiler tag provided by Nimono is spoilery myself - personally I wouldn't consider that to be a spoiler.Nimono wrote: ↑3 years ago raocow! Advice for you! But it's kinda spoilers, so I'll put it in a spoiler tag. Read now if you wish, or save it for closer to the end of the game:In the final level, there's some special items you can collect, you'll know them when you see them. COLLECT THEM THE MOMENT YOU'RE ABLE, DO NOT WAIT. If you wait, they turn transparent and can't be collected ever again, locking you out of 101% completion.
combined with the time limit that depends on how many blueprints you collected
is very mean.Re: Donkey Kong 64 - Getting Bananas
That lightning effect in the boss does not look right. I know that DK64 plays weird on modern devices, on a tv the lighting is not so bad. Also, I'd recommend moving on for now until you get all the characters, but there's nothing wrong with finishing some of the clean up now.
Re: Donkey Kong 64 - Getting Bananas
they have their own money what!!!
Re: Donkey Kong 64 - Armored Armadillo
This game is so large that it's probably a good idea for you to handle it like you planned in the video description. Just do whatever you feel like, get whatever you want to, change the scenery as necessary. It's a game that's kind of overwhelming to tackle if you're going for 101% from the beginning but if you just play pretty casually to start it's still a good time even today. That's my opinion!
