Including Fortresses, Castles, and other levels with their own special icon, but not counting Toad Houses, Hammer Bros, Spade Games, and Pipes:

World 1: 8 Levels
World 2: 9 Levels
World 3: 12 Levels
World 4: 8 Levels
World 5: 13 Levels (I'm counting the Spiral Tower stage that link the ground with the sky)
World 6: 14 Levels
World 7: 14 Levels
World 8: 11 Levels

So yeah, 4th in terms of # of levels

So this run is basically

People die if they are killed

People die if they kill

People die if they are near someone getting killed

People die if they collect coins, even if they are nowhere in the vicinity of someone getting killed

I somehow never noticed that the right part of the World 3 map was literally Japan. Who knew?

Also I can't wait for the second half of World 5 and a whole bunch of levels in a row ending by trying desperately to get Lakitu to fling himself off the right side of the screen for a few frames

Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

I love how 4-2 has the same set up as the Boss Bass levels from World 3 with giant versions of enemies everywhere to fit the World 4 gimmick, but then Boss Bass is replaced with a cheep cheep. It's such a clever little detail.

Interestingly, 4-4 was modified for All-Stars. In the beginning of the stage the water is much lower than in the NES version. This is necessary to keep water level consistent. Curiously, the water level is not consistent within the bonus room of 4-4.

I've always had the issue with big world that the giant koopas are too wide and fat. Like they don't look like a scaled up version of the normal sized ones, their proportions are all off. The issue is that even though their hitbox is actually 1x1 "blocks", the koopas have a 1x2 sprite which doesn't really scale up to fit into a big 2x2 sprite. So they kinda just stretched them out horizontally

The sledge bros thing the other day was so surreal

as for me i always got mad that you get to level 3 of giant land and then it's already not a level with giant things anymore. come on!

It could make some amount of sense that they didn't change the bonus room. If you treat the level as 2d and thus similar to a pipe then the bonus room has nowhere for the air to go to allow the air pressure to equalize and thus allow a single water level. The main part of the level on the other hand has no such restriction since there's no ceiling.

yeah i wish we had more giant stuff than goombas, koopas, piranhas, and hammer bros in this world

IIRC in 4-6 you get better prizes from question mark blocks when you're in the big half than in the small half. Like, some blocks in the big half will have powerups, but those same blocks in the small half only have coins.

Honestly, yeah. 5-2 in upper parts isn't really an underground level in NES I would say, but because it used an underground tileset it became an underground level in All-Stars.
