Oh, man, I've been looking forward to this for a long time! I haven't played through this particular game in ages, but, I do have fond memories of parts of it!

It'll definitely be a neat experience! :rao:

the heck's up with Green Hill With Angel Island Music Zone

interesting note: they used 4 of their extremely small number of pixels to denote that sonic's eyes are green, which no 2d game has done before(?).
call me reecer6, not reecer7, please! gotta maintain that same internet brand. actually i'm cro-iba now, it's cooler

oh man the modern sonic era is so different from the classic sonics, the characterizations of sonic and egg man and the storytelling will never be the same again
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

If it's a boss at the end of every second Act, does that mean you can only get the special stage in Act 1 of every zone, and therefore have to get it every time, and succeed at the minigame?

The weird thing about this game is that it has different music between each act, except the music tracks are completely separate from each other. So you get Angel Island Act 1 in this zone's Act 2, and the song for Angel Island Act 2 is found in a completely different zone. The chiptune renditions of these songs are very cute, don't get me wrong, but it's so weird how they're dispersed throughout the game.

I remember editing this game's sonic sprite back in like 2007, not sure why, and pretty sure I didn't even know this game existed. But I do remember that happening.

Sonic Jam music in that Act 1, all that balloon-popping and monitor-finding and jumping-on-Tails was COMPLETELY WORTH IT FOR THE CONTEXT

please read my 350 page counterfactual history novel about a universe where sonic adventure was sonic's first and only foray into 3d ever

angel island zone act 2 into hydrocity zone act 2??? the levels and paired music this game has elected to mimic with exactness continue to confound me. still, it's very satisfying to see a handheld game finally manage to convey sonic speed and avoid the peril of screencrush. even if it is, like, just entirely in exact mimicry of the original

Wow, that was one of the best 2D bosses so far. I'm impressed how well the physics and hitboxes work. There was a lot of times raocow brushed the underside of the spikes but never quite touched them, I think this kind of precision was not quite there in the Genesis games. Same about the platform movement, looks quite sensible and smooth.

You can do clean up, dimps was kind enough to make levels replayable once you beat them.

Have fun with that refresh rate on the special stage iirc

That's great! Something that could have been added earlier in the series, too...

I've also looked up what the yellow cards do, and apparently

they are puzzles pieces you can assemble in the main menu

and there's 96 of them to collect throughout the game? I love when you actually have a reason to explore in these big levels, so low key this game has excellent structural decisions I think.

I actually finished that sidequest with the help of a walkthrough on that old Let's Play forum that spun off from Something Awful's back in like 2010. I'd imagine going through it blind now would be like the blue coins in Sunshine though. Though, it's probably nothing a map of each act's foreground to keep progress wouldn't solve.

Also, since no one has mentioned this, flowers in the special stage are continues.
Also guess the problem with the special stages is the draw distance. Faulty memory of mine. I haven't been following AtS so.

In Sonic 3, you can stage select a file once you beat it. I think...

You can but in Pocket Adventure, Advance 1-3 and I'm pretty sure the later handheld games, you could replay any stage as long as you beat them.

Sonic 3&K required either:
a) not beating the boss, allowing you to start at Act 1 of the same zone.
b) beating the whole game, allowing you to start at Act 1 of any zone.

The handhelds allow you to start at Act 2 if you wish.
