Peach's Memory - Memorabilia

Post by Gardenolva »

Please, for those who already played this rom hack, refrain from backseatting and use spoiler tags if you're attempting to, unless raocow asks. Thank You!

Timestamps: About:
Peach's Memory is a SM64 Hack made by Daniel_EDC, released in August 22, 2019. It's a not-too-short, not-too-long hack with a fair difficulty curve.

The story (yes, it has L O R E) takes place in a town where the Red Stars originated, and it was a place where Princess Peach recalled her childhod about those stars. But Bowser set foot in that town to steal the Red Stars and may use them against the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario was tasked to collect those Stars for the sake of Peach's Memory.

Missing Stars was a gem to the SM64 hacking community. It's basically the one that started it all, which made people continued the evolution of SM64 hacking. I would be surprised if raocow take a dive to Missing Stars.

I played this over the past few days just because both other SM64 hacks raocow's played I'd already played a while before and like why break tradition, right?

Anyway, the bonus room star at Bob-Omb Temples was honestly one of the hardest stars in the game to me which makes it all the stranger that it's the second one. I'm not good at this, though

im super duper excited for this*:・゚not sure why for me but super mario 64 thingies always feel super nostalgic even when new〜aand i cant wait to have another lp to rewatch through again in the futures‼ the thread info and stuff is also hecka well done, gardenolva₊˚* great work⚟

░also also░ it totally feels like an odyssey thing in that bonus section, to have like the main easy to get goal and then like a secrety secret one hidden somewhere hard to find⁛⁝⁙im still finding moons that way in that game.⋆ฺ(*。>◡<。) so ill definitely keep a keen eye out while watching this to try and spot any extra stars in bonus areas✧゚

The plot of this hack as presented by the opening text crawl:

Peach: "Hey Mario, I just remembered an obviously sacred treasure that I saw in a foreign land once when I was a child. Go steal it for me. We can obviously put it to better use than the natives of that land."

Mario: "Okee-Dokee!"

The Mushroom Kingdom is run by a ditsy, tyrannical monarch who on a whim sends a brainless, invincible superhuman around the world to steal precious artifacts that are possibly holding off a curse and could send the land into peril if it goes missing. Mario will stop at nothing to commit this heist, even if it involves murdering the people just trying to protect the populace from all turning into nougat or something. Peach already owns a who-knows-how-large collection of stars, but she wants this one because it's red.

For all we know, Bowser's kingdom could just be an ally to the Land of Red Stars and they're helping to prevent this blatant act of theft.

the writing in this is... :/
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

Incredibly impressed by the level design on display thus far. The first star is several identical jumps between identical square platforms, and the second star is multiple sections' worth of identical jumps between identical square platforms! And having King Bob-omb take one more hit whilst changing absolutely nothing about his behaviour really subverts your expectations right out of the gate

tbh I really didn't think of Peach as a tyrant, but slowly, I began to change my mind about her perspective. Maybe Bowser's kidnapping changed her way slowly.

also raocow, utilizing the parallel lakitu cam can be helpful on some platforming, like you need to rotate 90 degrees to make the perspective look like 2D unless the platforms aren't straight. Sideways camera is also good for precise walljumps. Plus a heads-up, when you're flying or swimming but te camera doesn't follow Mario's back, you need to press L to change the flight/swim perspective. I think it had that on Last Impact.

Yeah Course 1 was a fun experience. It has a feel of every First Levels should be minus the early pitfalls.

About Wallkicks/walljumps, the timing is super short if you want to do wallkicks. There will be times that you get bonked, and there will be times that you unnecessarily perform a Firstie (an extended wallkick).

Cool, both the A and B-sides are 3D platformers. Has this ever happened before? This will be fun to watch raocow struggle play through, I like to see him go outside his comfort zone. Also, I like how this game wasn't released yet when the Mario 64 hack was still TBD in the "Coming Up Next" thread.
