Re: All The S@nics - Chaos - LEATHER, LACE, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!
Fun Sonic Facts!
Sonic Chaos, known as Sonic & Tails (ソニック&テイルス) in Japan, was released for the Game Gear and Master System in 1993, with several version differences. This Sonic game is notable as being the first 8-bit title to feature Tails as a playable character, and the first game on any system to allow the player to control Tails' flight, as well as the first 8-bit title to introduce the Spin Dash and the Super Peel-Out. Also, the game reuses the same title music and death jingle as Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for the Game Gear, but in a higher key.
This reuse of assets will come up quite a bit in the game...

The intro cutscene music reminded me of the Death Note theme at the start. Truly forshadowing the "Sonic Has Passed"

Is this gonna be one of those games like
Prototype
where the on-death messageALEX IS DEAD
is actually a continuous statement of truth, and not relevant to the actual state of the game? Is this the precursor to Sonic.exe?Re: All The S@nics - Chaos - LEATHER, LACE, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!
Can't wait to see raocow's reaction when he will get to the bonus stage.
I see what you did there...

Yeah, uh, something extremely broke there. You were supposed to end up going to a short little course where you need to find/collect the Chaos Emerald within a certain amount of time. Not just...skip the special stage entirely.
Re: All The Sonic's Chaos - Don't do what Sonic does
What is wrong with this stage's music? It's completely different than the Game Gear's and I don't like it

This track was a Korg M1 demo song, which is why they changed it for the Game GearAwoo wrote: What is wrong with this stage's music? It's completely different than the Game Gear's and I don't like it
You can also hear it in Troll 2 which is why I'm mentioning this

I'm not sure why you weren't allowed to go to the special stage, but collecting 100 rings is intentionally meant to be an automatic stage clear.

Re: All The S@nics - Chaos - LEATHER, LACE, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING!
For those confused about what happened today with the special stage skip, it's a Tool-Assited Speedrun thing. Basically, there is a value that calculates the time in the timer, it resets to zero at the last frame, if you obtain the ring and trigger the bonus stage on the 59th second just before it returning to zero, the special stage is skipped. So raocow had one chance in sixty for this to actually happen...on his first special stage...yesterday he just missed two rings and it was funny, you can't imagine how I feel right now.
raocow, don't look for bonus stages, this is not your fate, you don't belong with them.
Can't wait to see what is going to happen in world 3.

Fun Sonic Facts!
The gimmick of most levels in Sonic Chaos is that Sonic is foiling Eggman's plan at a much earlier stage than most, so most levels are only mostly finished challenges with few badniks to challenge Sonic.
This extends to the bosses, as rather than challenge Sonic himself, Eggman sends his backup creations to engage him, like today's Bouncy Boss Robot. (Yes that is literally its name. Eggman was in a literal mood for this series of designs)

Re: All The Boatnics - Kaos - LEATHER, LACE, LATEXHYDRA...what?
I don't remember these levels being so unfinished, but then again the Game Gear *does* have a bit of screen crunch.
Quite different, that's for sure!

As someone whose (almost) entire experience with Sonic is Sonic Heroes, this series has been very interesting so far. Like, I had no idea there were Sonic games on the Master System and Game Gear.

i have a soft spot for the 8bit sonics because they and the saturn/dreamcast/gamecube/gba/ds era are sort of like the liminal spaces of sonic games. they just feel really off and wrong but in a way that soothes me somehow. kinda like vaporwave. i guess nostalgia might factor into it too
none of what i said makes sense, i know

Fun Sonic Facts!
As demonstrated via the Bad Future of Sonic CD, the nefarious Doctor Eggman takes a cruel pleasure in converting vast tracts of nature into twisted, metallic parodies under his thumb. While still incomplete, Mecha Green Hill Zone is one such conversion of a sizable chunk of Green Hill Zone. Once there was verdant, peaceful idyll, but now replaced wholesale with steel palmtrees armed with coconut bombs while 'Bane Motora' beetlebots trudge over joyless fields of synthetic grass. Above it all, The Tree Crawler, KAMADO MAX, watches for any sign of Sonic's appearance.
The music is also a reuse of the level theme from Green Hills Zone, which itself was a remix of the title theme of Sonic CD. It's a remix of a remix!
