That is because this was the Bad Future music, despite raocow playing in the Good Future. This is the one exception, just for the Metal Sonic race.

And raocow, how did you never hear about 'the race against Metal Sonic'? I thought this was a common knowledge thing, for people who know the game.
So is the rest of the game actually going to be blind for you?

Nope, that was the Good Future music. In the remake, they do force the Metal Sonic race to play the Bad Future theme irrespective of its state (which was a nice touch), but not in the original.

The Japanese version of Stardust Speedway Bad Future is by far one of the funkiest tracks in this entire game

I personally love the fact that it features 'I've got the power!' as one of its samples.

I'm the exact opposite, I think Good Future US sounds perfect for the race,
while Good Future Japan sounds way too happy and care-free for it.

I've always found it interesting how divided people are about the two different OSTs.
Uh...Do I just sign here? What do you mean it should be obvious? There are people in this world...well...a whole lot of people that can't follow basic instructions!

hah, that's not what i meant. i don't like the JP soundtrack much at all, just in general. i was more saying the bad future song works a lot better for this than the good future song

as you pointed out in the vid description basically all the zones in sonic 1 are remade/upgraded here

green hill -> palmtree panic
spring yard -> collision chaos
labyrinth -> tidal tempest
star light -> stardust speedway
scrap brain -> metallic madness

and these are probably not intentional, but

mystic cave -> quartz quadrant
metropolis -> wacky workbench

marble zone got axed though because it's boring visually and should feel bad

Huh, you would really need to go out of your way if you want to see the Good Future verion of Act 1. They placed the machine at the end of the stage, and I didn't see any Future posts where raocow explored, so they must be all in the first half.

We need a "coin" counter. where instead of counting the rings raocow gets, we count the amount of times he says "coins" instead of "rings" throughout the whole series. Playing so much Mario for so many years will do some things to you, man.

Also, being someone that prefers the JP soundtrack, going to the past has the added reward of being able to listen to that when playing the US version.

This zone has a lot of annoying elements, particularly the enemies like that spinning pole that you can't destroy. It's kind of antithetical to sonic gameplay
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

Or just get all of the Time Stones and then get the first Future sign you see. Although as you can see, time travelling in this zone is pretty hard.

I don't think I've ever heard the American music for this level before. It's a lot less... memorable than the Japanese one, to be honest.

Tomorrow's level is pretty much the entire reason why this game left a real sour taste in my mouth the first time I beat it. I guess the machine isn't really that well-hidden, but somehow I still ended up looking for it for like 20-30 minutes before giving up and looking up a map of the area. I honestly had a lot more fun with this game when I played it just trying to get the Time Stones instead of looking for the machine in each level.

Sounds about right for a first-time player of the area without knowledge of where anything is or what's going on.

Fun Sonic Facts!

In the Japanese version of the Bad Future theme, phrases like "Sonic, dead or alive, is mine," "You can't do anything, so don't even try it. Get some help," and "Don't do what Sonic does," can be heard in the music. They were made using a speech synthesis program, specifically the one included in the OS of all Amiga computers, which were used to develop Sonic CD.

Metallic Madness is also the only Zone in the game that does not contain any Metal Sonic Projectors.

Yeah, I kind of feared that level when you started this game. The thing that bothers me the most about it is that

the crusher block right in front of the area where the machine is functions as such a huge deterrent, because the past doesn't have any checkpoints and the rest of the level is a super annoying maze. I passed by that area like five times, but every time I didn't go investigate it because I kept thinking to myself, "Why would I bother risking death for ten rings?" When I looked up where the machine was it felt like a slap in the face. I've never seen a Sonic level that hates the player this much.
