Re: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - The Invasion 2
There's a whole convoluted formula for how the Mush Badge works, but the gist of it is pretty simple: it takes your mushroom count, does a funky math dance, then adds the result on top of the damage you'd do without it.
That is, it adds on to every hit you land. So while it's not as noticable when you're already pretty powerful, it's super-helpful when you're doing low damage.
It was also nerfed in the remake. Never forget.

And with a certain Advanced attack that lets Mario do multiple hits in one move, that flat extra number is added to every single hit.
In fact, for both the spoilered and unspoilered reasons listed, it's the preferred speedrun badge. Make it to Little Fungitown ASAP, buy the badge, load up on mushrooms, and DON'T GET HIT FOR THE LOVE OF GODIt was also nerfed in the remake. Never forget.

No upload yet? I hope raocow's okay :o
Maybe he's been without power and we'll be treated to more Stuffed Animal Adventures?
Today's been all kinds of weird so far, at least for me.

I genuinely thought it was possible that you were taking today off for Canada Day, since the VIP 5 video would have been recorded the day prior. The only thing was that I wasn't aware if you announced it previously.
Re: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - The Great Empire
Oh no, raocow's gonna abuse the Mush Badge. I don't know how to feel about this, since it's sooo incredibly broken that you can literally oneshot the final boss with enough mushrooms. If I had a say, I'd kinda want him to turn them off sometime? As they basically ruin the entire fighting portion of the game. It's pretty clearly unintentionally broken as well, considering that the JP release of this game (since this was released in America first) significantly raised the price of the badge, and cut it's damage boosting power in half. That and the remake made it no longer available in shops, and gave it's boost in damage before defense, instead of at the end of damage calculation.

Re: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - The Great Empire
Today was an episode in a blind lp of an rpg
We had to have one eventually!
Also Anuboo is the weirdest outta-nowhere enemy and I love it and I don't know why??

Counterargument: yes, using the Mush Badge is going to impact his damage output a decent deal, but I don't really see raocow using the strategy that would make it outright game-destroying (Rwars wrote: Oh no, raocow's gonna abuse the Mush Badge. (etc)
Advanced Chopper Bros., which I do agree makes everything a complete joke when mush-badged
) due to his playstyle. Also Anuboo is the weirdest outta-nowhere enemy and I love it and I don't know why??

I love how it doesn't resemble any other Boo whatsoever. Not shy, complete silhouette mode, copies shadows... Funky little duder!

Actually, when you lay it out like that, it makes me think of that one shadowy chapter in Thousand-Year Door. Anuboo would fit right in there.

Re: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - The Great Empire
I didn't want to mention it, but yeah, that was a remake change on the Mush Badges. But only the upper tier badges (which I feel isn't a spoiler since he's seen those before).
Anyway, only two remake notes this time:
Today's video is what makes me grateful for the remake, because I probably would've done the same thing in the original. The remake actually gives you clear written instructions on how each Bros. Attack works that you can resort to at any time, so you're not a loss when it comes time to execute the moves. In addition, having the mini-map available at all times is super-handy, since you will know not only where you've been, but where you haven't been (since the mini-map will show exits you haven't used yet). This would've saved you a lot of time.
Anyway, only two remake notes this time:
- Because of better graphics, the Great Force in the remake is clearly just shown to be the Triforce.
- The Thwomp mini-game is slightly different, in that that the rocks you break look like Thwomps.
- For Swing Bros., you have to HOLD, not tap, the A button on that first bit. This is the only move that requires you to hold a button.

Re: Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga - The Great Empire
That was a somewhat unfortunate episode. There's another path to the area with the ship right from the entrance to Teehee Valley if you head east, but I think you just didn't notice that the land on the right is the same height as the ledge you jump over right when you walk in, and rather assumed that rightmost wall was just a barrier. Oh well!
It's not a graphical limitation of the GBA, it was just a single piece of the triforce rather than all 3 pieces. Like the piece you build in Zelda 1 and Wind Waker.

Collecting the Great Force in the remake also just straight-up plays the Zelda item jingle to remove the subtlety that was never there to begin with
