Rayman Origins (please see manual for origin story)

Post by Sebby19 »

I was too impatient to wait for some else to make the topic, this game is a real hoot.

While originally made to be the origin story of Rayman, exploring how Rayman became friends with Globox, and grew to be a hero. Well, plans changed, so we got this game instead. It's still a hoot to play, especially in multiplayer. I have this on my Wii, but it's been a real long time since I completed it.

Can't wait for raocow to see everything the game has too offer.

Assuming he's playing the Steam version (and not the uplay version), i'm surprised SteamInput didn't recognize his controller and make things work.

The game is pretty linear and the secrets are completely optional, so I don't see that happening.

A series I can watch because I played it! Hooray!

Here's some spoilers for you cowman! You can attack while running! It helps you not run into enemies and die! Wow!

On a more serious note: dash attack actually is very effective at quickly getting you top speed without having to go through the running's startup. And trust me, that'll be important later.

You can also ground pound, attack in the air, attack while ducking, and hold the attack button for a more powerful attack. Latter two are fairly pointless though in most cases.

It doesn't matter! there are still several things about this game raocow should learn by himself.

Well, if you're going to mention all the different attack options, I'll finish by mentioning one you missed, a roll attack. It's pretty tricky to do, and I had to it by accident a few times to figure out the trigger:

If you hold down in midair, you'll enter a dive animation. When you hit the ground like this, your character will do a quick somersault, and then slide (or crouch if you got no speed). During the somersault part, if you press the attack button, you character will spin and flail like a maniac. Imagine Sonic's spindash if he didn't tuck in his arms and legs. It's hilarious to see, even if there is little utility.

P.S. You don't need to minimod, tangeruse

it's weird to play Rayman 2 where Rayman is an extremely polite and nice lad to this one where he is a very rude boy

Rayman Origin is a reboot of the original series. And to be honest this iteration is honestly more refreshing in my opinion.

It's actually a sequel with a lot of retcon. Also it was planned as a sequel first. It isn't that far off to consider it also a reboot, since it basically brought back the series. (Star Wars: The Force Awakens is sometimes considered a reboot too)
The word reboot isn't that fleshed out to outright say that the game isn't one.

Then allow me to *actually* mod. If this thread goes like the Wario Land 3 one did, and I keep getting reports of spoilers or backseat gaming, you *will* be banned. No one wants a repeat of that mess. So behave this time.

I got this game back in October and had been too busy with grad school-y stuff to finish it yet. I ought to get back to it now that raocow's starting. ^^;

I'm looking forward to this, there's a lot of neat stuff in the parts of the game I've played so far.

This game should match up well with your play style, but this game's hard enough even with a controller. Are you really forced to use a keyboard for this? Good luck, man!

He mentioned he was using Joy2Key, which remaps just about any controller to mock keyboard input.

This game is The Best Platformer in my book because it 100% nails what I worship in my platformers: gameplay flow. In almost every level, you NEVER have to stop even for a second. Every single obstacle is time so you can just GO. Run at full speed, jump and attack at the correct times, and you will CRUISE through these amazing-looking levels which never become repetitous, but also don't rely on gimmicks overmuch.

I played the demo for this before it came out, and the three levels presented immediately sold me on it so much that it became my first preorder, something I usually don't as principle. It's hard to overstate how a game can have the balls to choose an

underwater level

as the third, final demo stage and have it not only be tolerable, but easily the best of the three and hammering my decision to get this immediately down firmly.

I love this game and I'm sure raocow will too. Have fun!
