Huh, tonight's map is less absolutely god-awful than I remember it being.

OTOH I am amused to learn that the power line towers at the beginning of Volt Man's stage are just floating in the middle of the air.

Best part of this series IMHO is raocow's robust singing.

Or is Wave Man inside of an anchor?
Some base, it's one room and there's nothing in it.

I guess Wily spent most of his budget on the ship and then just slapped together a small underwater bunker with the leftovers.

Huh, so that tube at the bottom means its technically the Mega Man series longest Boss Corridor. Congrats?

Remember the episode of Arthur where he gets the new game Deep Dark Sea and breaks his mom's computer?
I think he was actually playing Mega Man 3 DOS

raocow's commentary for this game increasingly feels like he's torn between being sympathetic towards the circumstances of its development and being angry that it exists at all.

So while watching the LP I found this PCGamer article that answers quite a few questions about how Mega Man and Mega Man 3 DOS came to be. It also confirms the suspicions from today's video about MM3DOS originally starting life as an environmentally-themed game before being reworked, although I am not sure how much was changed beyond just the main character.

Interesting that you brought up the game having an "eco" theme to it, prior to being converted to Megaman, because I had basically the same thought a few nights ago on Discordhaus:
YelseyKing - Last Thursday at 9:36 PM
Looking at the maps, I get the impression that whatever the game was that this one was before they turned it into a Megaman game, had some kind of "save our oceans" theme to it.
The stages all have some kind of ocean/sewer/hazardous material theme to them.

And now, some fun Mugshot facts! (Courtesy of the Wiki)
-Bit Man is a (very obvious) Hard Man Edit
-Weirdly enough, Blade Man is a Metal Man Edit (Huh)
-Even weirder, Shark Man is a Snake Man Edit (even less obvious)
-Oil Man is a (somewhat obvious) Flash Man Edit
-Wave Man is a (very obvious) Air Man Edit
-And Finally, maybe the weirdest, Torch man is a Magnet Man Edit!

The more you know!

Today's video was literally half the length I was expecting it to be. I really did forget how not-long this stage was.

I don't know if anyone on YT had the same idea already or if my thought the other day is new, but I realized something: the reason why there are hazmat dudes all over the place, and they have a unique shot animation as opposed to most other enemies that just...generate projectiles, and they can even jump? This is what the protagonist of the original eco-whatever game looked like, and Kevin didn't want to scrap the design, so they're a normal enemy now.

Lives lost in levels with water: 1
Lives lost in the level without water: 4

Seems you had a bit of trouble without being in the game's natural element today. Oh-ho-ho. Thank goodness this is over next time barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Has the game actually even featured any instant death stuff up until this level? Even the pistons, something you'd normally expect to be instant death, only did like a quarter to a third of his health instead.

No, there were no pits up until now. I'm just joking anyway. This game's been brutal for a variety of reasons, but I had no idea it was this bad. I'm glad I only played Oil Man's stage now. I think I got lucky.

In hindsight, you probably should have just played the Day in the Limelight games again instead of the DOS games.

Small wonder this game's bizarrely floaty jump mechanics don't mesh well with precision platforming.
