What?

Yeah, the time stop mechanic could have worked better, but this was miles above bullet hell nonsense in a Mario game.
Well yes it was a better mechanic, but I still found it unfun. /opinion

For those not familiar, the Touhou level was based on Sakuya's Last Word spell card in Imperishable Night, which is called "Deflation World":

Everyone's favorite gimmicks, having to stop and wait constantly AND having your control wrenched from you continuously.

it still feels really weird to me to see these clearly non-mario levels that don't follow general mario design conventions in the A-Side slot.

Still a neat level though.

contests are better when they aren't contests, but when you call it a collab it never gets finished 8^)
Well it is a decent hack but sometime its just too repetitif there no level that actually pop in your face and your like oh yeah that level they all ressemble themselves and just monster along the way.

It's not so different from talkhaus that it doesn't matter how boring and disconnected a level feels, someone will call it the best because of a half assed Touhou reference.

I think the first level today despite being a reference to Touhou was an excellent level. It was impressive from a technical standpoint and really showed what the new SMBX engine can do. The level design wasn't bad either, it wasn't obnoxious or anything.

I don't understand why people think the level is bad because it is not a Mario stage and features stuff from another game if the level itself is well designed.

I was talking specifically about the difference between "favorite" and "the best".

It does gradually ramp up its difficulty in the first section and then throw a twist at it with the gravity manipulation in the 2nd part of it. It didn't do much, but what it did wasn't a mess as you seem to be implying.

I don't the level was that bad at all. For me, it's just still weird to see a level that doesn't follow general mario design conventions that you see in things like SMW Hacks, or pre-LUA SMBX stuff (like STTB), in the A-Side slot.

If that were a full-on thing in the B-side slot, I'd probably be fine with it.

A bit late, but it's the "Chapter 1 Menus" theme from Super Meat Boy - the theme when you're at the Forest stage select.
