Literally that's the only reason I can think for this to have been done.
The reason that comes to mind is so... people don't have to update past 1.3? So it's compatible with the 'canonical' SMBX, as opposed to the various LunaDLL/LunaLua forks or the upcoming radically different SMBX2.

Like, I'm still not sure that's a sufficient reason, but it's a slightly more valid reason.

Really, there are only two actively competing forks - SMBX2.0 and SMBX1.4.

1.4 is totally incompatible with 1.3 stuff anyway, and while 2.0 is a little behind currently, that won't be the case for long.

There's literally no reason not to update other than stubbornness.

Bullshit. If you actually didn't care then you wouldn't have said anything to begin with.

I'm perfectly calm? Thoroughly wording what I say isn't an indicator I'm not calm or something.

There were a fair amount of people attacking the guy and even SMWC for some reason. Lots of assuming intentions and acting as if wanting to keep the ending a secret was arrogant instead of simply misguided

I mean, there was lots of normal criticism/discussion too, but the backlash was rather extreme for what's just a video game ending. (Of course, a lot of the worst stuff was in the youtube comments, which is to be expected...)

I feel pretty bad for the guy, but I'm also glad the LP will be complete.

I liked the "SMWC is known for shitting on Talkhaus projects" comment which a) isn't true at all, and b) has nothing to do with the "don't LP the finale" request.

Since we're all throwing in our Hot Takes™...

I would not be able to get to the finale of this game, I would not be able to beat the "normal" final level of this game. This game was from what I can tell stuck in development hell bouncing between new project leaders, and it's cool that it managed to come out but when the only people credited with testing the game is the people who designed the hardest levels of it you're going to end up with an alienating difficulty.

The reward for playing a game should be playing the game itself. When you say that the final cut-scene is a reward for playing the game you're inadvertently saying that the game itself is just a hurdle to overcome. Don't get me wrong, there are certainly games that benefit from going in "unspoiled" but a Mario colab project is never going to be one.

That said, you don't have to be so hostile, talkhaus.

Well then, it seems that most of the drama has passed for now. I'm not really impacted or unhappy about the whole ending deal. (Though Horikawa's post did touch me quite a bit regarding that part)

What I'm sad about is the level itself.

Indeed, it is a proof of concept. But it is very apparent that it's super easy to die on, regardless of skill. Beyond that, the difficulty does not feel fresh and proper to me. The password system's time crunch really irks me, too. It's like reverse Super Meat Boy. And that's terrible. Though I'm not trying to drive a steak into you or anything; you tried your hardest, given the time and testing that was given to the level. Challenge makes games fun. But only if the player has power....

Eventually, it'll be me in his position, and I'll have to explain my choices. It's a real test of will......
I am prone to almost everything... except spontaneous violence.

Horikawa Otane wrote:What I would recommend doing for the short term is handling these cutscenes in LunaLua
The problem with that is that I have next to no Lua experience (recall my response to Hoeloe), and if I took the time to learn it enough to be able to recreate The Finale with Lua, it would no longer be short-term. This is why there isn't a Lua version already. Plus, all the damage control I've been doing (even before the "no spoilers" fiasco) has caused me to get behind in my real life work, so the only way that your suggestion could get done in the short term is if someone who already knows Lua volunteers to port the level.

I don't understand why you and Leet are having an argument? The two of you agree that this request to withhold the final cutscene from the LP was a bad idea, as Leet made it clear here, a request that Imaynotbehere4long now decided to rescind.
raocow wrote:haha, welp.
I was going to say if you finished recording to the end of the game, please show the cutscene as an extra, but a third party already uploaded it, so...

Did you access it off-recording, at least?

Mostly because of Leet trying to write this incident off using that Touhou thing as justification which is completely invalid for the reasons I've explained. (Also because Leet can't refrain from responding in sarcastic ways for no real reason or apparently even bothering reading what people are saying to her.)

Leet said that this was a thing that has happened before and then said that they didn't agree with the decision after which you made some needlessly antagonizing posts, hope this helps!

PGE Engine is still incomplete, and is a long way from completion. It's not really at a point where using it for anything other than "testing PGE Engine" is worthwhile.
