Darn it Zyglrox.
I actually liked his level because it was short, mainly, but the Super Meat Boy comparison was a pretty good point considering each room is a mini challenge room, just like SMB levels.

i think it was considerate that the stage had a checkpoint, and that both the start and checkpoint gave you a bunch of 1 ups

There was also a little more wiggle room in my build of the engine because Pyro helped me fix the Quicklasers to stop at walls on my end but forgot to roll the fix out to the judges or apply them for herself. :V She kept it unpatched to keep the level the same as they judged it, same reason she didn't fix the Black Hole Bomb eating them.
Also there's no I-frame abuse intended I don't think, it's been a while but I believe the solution to room 4 is to shoot the floorthingy as you jump up and then just go fast. Being able to reset the room helps a lot.
Also there's no music because the level was a panicked rush-job over the course of about 5 hours that I only settled on after getting bored of like a dozen other ideas and I legit forgot to get music. >_>

If I remember right, this is a result of how Blyka's Engine implements bottom borders. You can only transition downward if there's a vertical transition sprite where you are. Otherwise, the engine assumes that location is supposed to be a death pit. In short, unless the entire vertical border is lined with transition markers you'll have death pits somewhere.Voltgloss wrote:Huh. Remember, judging didn't happen by deciding "okay, this level is better than this one, and THIS level is better than that one but not this one" or anything like that. That "Trade Off" powerup reminds me of the "Calamity Ring" in Dark Souls: "Receive double damage."
Man, the contrast on both halves of 16th place is apparent, and it's a shame too: the first half really was good in design and flow, and had some interesting implements (along with the small comedy of Telly spam if you're fast enough) as well, but the second half really looked rushed and lacked some balancing with the amount of enemies.

It seemed that the theme switched from run and gun to stop or get obliterated. Not sure how many checkpoints you can have per level in this engine, but it probably needed a second one after the big snake fight.
