I guess I should name the level I'll be making then
I'll be taking the name 'Keep' which I initially passed on this contest but inspiration struck and now I must see if I can outdo my own MaGL level

Tentative dibs on
I don't know, I just like it. Might reread the level name lists again to see if there's anything I like more, but I'll hold onto this for now.I Believe That Bullet Bill Are Abrupt and I Feel Very Strongly About This!

I will take "Toad's Last Chance for Justice". I will squander this level name and produce a level that will not meet expectations.

Ergh moving layers
I'm trying to make something that moves up slowly and then quickly moves down trying to crush you. It works fine at first but then you see it moving a pixel or two further down after every cycle and starts phasing through the floor and very slowly leaves the screen.
Is there a way to fix this or is the way it calculates speed just make this impossible?
I could make it go up and down at the same speed without this error but that doesn't look as good

I'm going to guess that the thing you're working on has two events: one for it moving up, and one for it moving down with each event triggering the other. Sounds like the delay time to trigger the thing moving back up might be too long. You could try reducing that delay time just a hair.Penguinator44 wrote:I'm trying to make something that moves up slowly and then quickly moves down trying to crush you. If that isn't it, then the speed that your thing is descinding at may not be able to line up flush. A tiny increase or decrease might help.
Hope this helps!

Well there's a third event for a pause after every downward movement but that shouldn't change the problemLilPoncle115 wrote: I'm going to guess that the thing you're working on has two events: one for it moving up, and one for it moving down with each event triggering the other. After some messing around I've found that
Going up for 2 seconds at -2 speed and then down for 0.5 seconds at 8 speed has problems
Going up for 2 seconds at -2 speed and then down for 1 second at 4 speed has problems
Going up for 1 second at -2 speed and then down for 0.5 seconds at 4 speed works but I'll have move things around to make it survivable
I don't understand how halving the time for both up and down while keeping the speed the same would fix the problem but hey it works a bit better now

Oops...
I realize I didn't word that well at all. I was pretty tired when I wrote that. :D
You seem to have got it even though it was super convoluted. Sorry about that.

Just use Wohl's fancy custom editor for SMBX instead of the built-in one.Penguinator44 wrote:Ergh moving layers

It lets you set exactly how many blocks worth a moving layer goes in whatever amount of time you want to set it to, among another things.

I've been using both editors for different things but I was using the built-in one for events since I was still a little unfamiliar with Wohl's editor.

Re: MAGL X Rejected Level Names List
So, since we're thinking of reusing some MAGL X names (and eventually X2 names), I thought I'd make an alphabetical list of them here. Names with an asterisk (*) indicate levels that ignored the naming gimmick.
Note that these are how the level names appear in the actual filenames, and there are a few typos and I think there may be differences from what the hub signs say.
And while I'm at it, here's a list of postgame levels (and the "Make a Good Boss" levels):
