A2XT: It's Over

Post by Doctor Shemp »

It's finally here, being played for you
It's the new game from the talkhaus crew
Put your hands together if you want to clap
For just one verse of this stolen rap

A-2, A2-X-T
A-2, A2XT's here

Yes, I made the thread solely because the first two lines occurred to me and I didn't want to pass them up.

Also A2XT is being played and that's a happening thing.

Reminder that if you haven't previously boarded Rog's hype train then you can do so here: http://youtu.be/XNB3DOmJ8X0

EDIT: I am one forgetful guy! Release topic with download links: viewtopic.php?f=36&t=14928
Make sure you download and install the base game and then install Episode 1. Doing it the other way around would be silly. And if you change the install directory for the base game, like I had to because Windows 7 wouldn't let me unzip directly to Program Files, make sure you change the install directory for Episode 1 too.

Yes. Go play the game. It is fun. Very fun.

The game's actual release topic.
The first thing I would do with infinite power would be to make myself a cave where I could look at my shadow forever.

I made a game called Utter Confusion! Play it! :D
It's a lot of fun and has been incredibly popular at every indie game dev party I've brought it to.

I thought you guys learned something from the previous game about awkward writing and references but I guess not

The 5 minutes of actual gameplay were ok I guess but what's up with these awful sound effects???

Normally I'm a huge stickler for having the topic titles for SMBX episodes follow a format:

SMBX: Episode title; witty subtitle

But this game is special (and ASMBX barely followed the format either, so whatev).

OW graphics were made by Feenicks. I wonder if he made the tileset for the level today himself too. It was really atmospheric.

Those been there for a long time. I think they actually sound better than the default sounds.

Edit: I got used to them pretty quickly.

Yeah the "bonk" sound or whatever you wanna called it is so loud and feels... stocky. I really really really think the original one is better. Some of the sounds definitely fit, but some are just awful.

So far 7.5/10 "okay"

Ooh, I've been looking forward to this for a while, I've been blind to the whole development scene so I'm looking forward to seeing more.

Not sure what's going on with some of those sound effects though. Some I really like, such as the coins, the power-up transitions, and especially the cape swooshy-swoosh, but the sound of things being hit against walls is really really not good. It sounds too forceful, too loud, and it can get quite messy for the ears when there's a lot of things going on such as shells being knocked all over the place.

Super excited for many things to come for raocow in this game.
To be honest, I'm not looking forward to my submission since I sort of abandoned it and left it with the A2MBXT/A2XT team to update.
Nothing much to comment on the levels in the first video.

To anyone complaining about the cutscenes. Just go and play the frickin game. Of course cutscenes work better outside of the LP format.

I actually downloaded every SMBX video raocow made. Renaming them to fit in a playlist was a pain when I started the project but now that it's gonna be a daily thing it won't be as bad.

It's his videos, he can name them whatever he wants. It's juts more work for people trying to follow them in order.

It begins. Hooray!

I know very little about the revisions made by the dev team. So I'm excited to see what lays in store.

I will also watch this in perpetual excitement since my level is pretty much the very last one. (penultimate anyway)

I'm impressed with the game so far (played to the end of the first world and it's much better ASMBXT), but I agree with the comments about the sound effects. Almost all of them sound tremendously unfitting and unprofessional - I would have just left them alone.

Also:
raocow wrote:For once the talkhaus made a game designed to be played by people, and not necessarily just to be LP'd!
Really? Because of all of the Talkhaus collabs, this seems like the one that was meant to be LP'ed the -most- so far given all of the references and attempts to make raocow laugh.

Well, here we go then.
I will say, yeaaaaaah, the bonking head against stuff noise is incredibly annoying after a while. I'm used to it now but it's still... nngh.
Regardless, I'm really excited for the stuff that's to come up that I may or may not have done ahead of time.

Why am I in World 3 already help me.
Because Touhou OCs can in fact exist, sounds fake I know.

I can't change my username but I go by Vali/Claire now (aka call me Vali or Claire at your leisure ^^).

I never update this currently playing section anymore, it's probably an RPG or something.

It's not that the cutscenes are bad, the point is that they're full of in-jokes, something that was said they were trying to avoid, in order to make this a game for the general public.

Other than that and the sound effects, everything seems very polished so far.

I think the 'playable for the general public' means like the game design and difficulty and whatnot.

Though yeah, this is... really way injokey I'm not complaining though!

I just noticed how quiet the soundtrack is now. I thought it wouldn't be a problem on raocow's PC, because, hey, he can always turn up the volume if it's too quiet, but I didn't think the sound effects would be so loud in comparison. A common complaint on the Youtube video is that the sound effects are too loud compared to the soundtrack.

Which is insane, because I believe sturg or docopopper or whoever it was has been fiddling around with the sound levels for a million years!

I think this is simply because Giant Egg has a quiet soundtrack compared to most levels in the game.
